Subject: RE: Tech: Win 7 Youtube MC annoyance From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 16 Nov 10 - 08:58 AM I have now been able to block this - my recent hassles with the 'modem virus stuff' caused by using a default modem password happened after accessing this link. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Win 7 Youtube MC annoyance From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 14 Nov 10 - 09:39 PM ok - it seems to be tied in with something called 'prewatch settings' that replaces it when youtube is blocked - must be interference with some other FF addon, then..... |
Subject: RE: Tech: Win 7 Youtube MC annoyance From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 14 Nov 10 - 09:37 PM As for ad blocking it - that poopup seizes control and will not let you click on it to do anything but accept or cancel it - can;t get the adblocker to work on it - don't even know its origin, but totally blocking youtube seems to work - a pain for when you WANT to go there... and come back here... Hehe - poopup ... :-) |
Subject: RE: Tech: Win 7 Youtube MC annoyance From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 14 Nov 10 - 09:33 PM My previous post disappeared... that was a while ago and that tab has been shut. I tried updating it, but it locked up and would not back out. I use VLC for playing media. WMP 'registers' everything you play with the web - it will even ask if you want to pay for it. I eventually uninstalled WMP, but that popup still occurs - still haven't got all the ad blocking set up fully here yet. |

Subject: RE: Tech: Win 7 Youtube MC annoyance From: Joe Offer Date: 14 Nov 10 - 08:46 PM Hmmm. I guess by MC you mean Mudcat. I hate acronyms and abbreviations. There has been a video displaying in the "news" box up by the catfish icon. Maybe if you don't have whatever is needed for YouTube, the warning appears in the box. Why not just update the script? If you use a little common sense, you can have relatively flawless computer operation without resorting to total paranoia. Believe it or not, Microsoft and YouTube and Google have no reason to want to do you any harm. -Joe- |
Subject: Tech: Win 7 Youtube MC annoyance From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 14 Nov 10 - 08:33 PM Every time I visit the MC Home page I get "A new version of the YouTube script for Windows Media Player is available. Installing these updates is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Do you wish to update at this time? (Restart is NOT Required!) If you don't update, this message will appear on each video" Now I have uninstalled W*nkerCorp Meadia Mungler, but I still get this. How can I stop it? Using Firefox and NoScript blocking Youtube seemed to work for a while, but when I WANT a Youtube item, I unblock and forget. |
