anglo Concertina - mistake thought it was a small melodeon

Melodeon - saw one up close (and was inspired) and wanted to have a go (I thought if I can play computer games with buttons how hard can it be to get a tune pressing buttons)

Fiddle - always wanted to play one and was keen to have a light instrument where I didn't have to buy a new one every time I wanted to play a different key.

All of them, depending on what I am playing at the time. Some are better for some purposes than others - if I had more money, I would buy more, especially ones I currently can not play, If I had more time to live in good health, I would learn more of them.

You've chosen four pretty different instruments, all because you want to''play accompaniment'

Why not the piano? Or Mandolin, or Banjo, or Trumpet?

Having attended a bogpipe & hurdygurdy sesh last Saturday, its prompted me to ponder why people choose particular musical instruments to facilitate their self expression.

For my own part, the instruments I play were chosen for these reasons:

Guitar: For accompaniment of my own or others songs, also for tune seshes.

Melodeon: Because I wanted to play accompaniment & also lead tunes

Whistles:Because I wanted to play accompaniment & also lead tunes

Harmonicas: I found them a most versatile accompaniment tool.


Anyone else?
