'May the blood on the sails all be fisherman's tales'

Found this on an old tape with lyrics not clear. Might suit a friend to sing so I'm trying to find the text before I suggest it.
Google found me a blog site with it as a track list item on a Gordon Bok CD but I got no further going to his site.

Here it is, JHW. It's listed with many others from Gordon's albums on his site, here: http://www.timberheadmusic.com/disc/bloodonthesails.htm

It's a grand song with a grand tune by Dick Swain.

Subject: Lyr Add: BLOOD ON THE SAILS (Colclough/Swain)
From: Ross Campbell

The song has an original tune by Phil and June Colclough, a quirky setting arranged by Martin Simpson on their album "Players from a Drama", which I found on a cassette issued about twenty years ago. Couple of CD copies available on Amazon.com for USD6.97 (I recommend this album highly - in addition to the well-known songs like "Song for Ireland", there are some very strong songs with almost filmic images.

It also appears on Bob Walser's CD

http://bobwalser.com/recordings/when-our-ship-comes-home/
(I have that album, but didn't connect the two versions somehow - have to dig them both out again).

From Bob Walser's site:-

BLOOD ON THE SAILS
Song by Phil & June Colclough, new melody by Dick Swain

Dick Swain found this text in a collection of British poetry and gave it this tune. When I heard him sing it, I knew I had to learn it. Thanks Dick.

May the Harpoon rust, may the cold steel be gone
May be seas all be clear where whale fishes run
May hook, knife, dart and line all be lost in the brine
May the blood on the sails all be fisherman's tales.

May the whaleman's breath no more hang like the mist
May he never face danger or take any risk
May boat, gun, oar and mast all be lost in the frost
May the blood on the sails all be fisherman's tales.

May the women on shore never have any fear
May smiles touch the cheeks that once ran with tears
May shipdeck, rope and bells all grow cockle shells
May the blood on the sails all be fisherman's tales.

May the seas ne'er be red where whalefishes bled
Nor shine like the wine when the whale fish is dead
May fleets, flags, sheds and quays all be lost in the seas
May the blood on the sails all be fisherman's tales.

May the Harpoon rust, may the cold steel be gone
May be seas all be clear where whale fishes run
May hook, knife, dart and line all be lost in the brine
May the blood on the sails all be fisherman's tales.

The melody I have is on a live gig cassette recording of Viv and daughter Angeline 20yrs ago (well known in N. Yorks then) and a grand one it is, rendered almost as an eight line verse eg

May the blood on the sails
All be fishermans tales

But as there is mention of more than one melody I don't know which I have
Thanks Ross for Bob Walser link. have to admit I don't know him though I know many of his fellows on what looks an interesting album

You can get Dick's tune here. http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playListId=57788516&originStoreFront=143441

I'd guess you have another tune, going by the age of the cassette.

Bob Walser's music is also well worth pursuing.
