Mon 22nd Nov at 9pm GMT. and with luck every fortnight.
Stroud FM streamed from their website sadly our licence limits us to two repeats and no podcasts.
So I intend to repeat it at 3am GMT on Wednesday mornings every week. (Because I have relatives in Toronto and NZ).
If I find other stations will take it I will report here.

Called Cresby's Cajun Capers the remit is Cajun music and factoids in between. However I am not sure if there is enough variety for an hour show - we will see.
Enjoy - and feel free to correct my Folklore - either via the station though it will get to me quicker via my website cresby.com > contactme

we use SAMs software and there have been problems very occ so I may be in the studio tonight (Mon) and slap the CD version on if anything goes wrong. It is pre-recorded and scheduled for Mon 9pm, Wed 24th and Wed 1st both 3am GMT.

FWIW the script (such as - one never stops editing during recording) and CD references are listed here

the next task is to see if any other stations will carry it.

Will definately listen in, the list sounds pretty good.
But where did you get that awful Cajun history bit from ?
You might wanna check out this page which will give you an insight into the part us noble British played in Cajun History. :-)
Another case of Human Rights abuse to add to our glorious Empire.
For some strange reason them Cajuns still love us - go figure?

I bow to your superior knowledge, however I trusted sleeve notes. I do know that Francophones were a fifth column during the war of independance and were hounded thereafter.
It isn't everyone who migrates, a succesful trader with commerce over a wide area within a governed territory is gonna stay where he earns. Those who have little to loose will go, and not all at once.
Can I blame the BBC for my facts? can I blame RCajun? who knows after 20 years? These facts are not mutually exclusive.
Pennsylvania didn't want them - according to the BBC.

Yes Mr Red, where the Acadien ships brought refugees to the east coast of USA, the people there treated them as slaves or worse.

I enjoyed the programme. Some really interesting music (especially D.L. Menard!). And I always like a radio presenter who

1. obviously loves the music

2. doesn't patronise the listeners

Well done!

I am not sure that Dead Horse's contention about the Cajuns being Catholics persecuted by English Prods is necessarily true. I think you might find that a substantial proportion of the Acadiens were in fact French Protestants escaping from French Catholicism by heading for the New World. Of course they found themselves on a losing side in a war...but think of the original inhabitants. The French and British were contending over lands they conquered form the local Indians/Native Americans(call them what you choose). The Acadiens/French lost that one. They ended up with a chunk of Louisiana. The locals ended up with nowt.

correction to the repeats soon ready for 24th 3am GMT & Dec 1st 3am
Thanks for the heads-up.

And wouldn't ya know it! due to overzelous covering of eventualities and all to swift tidying up when they proved un-necessary.....

We lost the last 6 minutes of playout. SAMs broadcast s/w does have some foibles (er make that bugs).
Sorry Greg but it included a bit more of Boat Band. All should be OK in the repeats.

Thanks for the positive comments. Yea I am a ceilidhnaut, cajunaut, Svenksnaut (last Sunday), and Frencho-bopper, tick one of the above virtually every Sat night but as you can deduce from my voice not so exuberant right now. Did line-dancing once. ONE, ONCE. Ya just can't get red stetsons and don't even think about high heeled red boots!

Now I have to rush and research my facts a bit for the next show. Can't rely on memory, don't ya know!

I noticed that you have Crane River Cajuns as down for the Dec 3rd dance at File Gumbo, while I have it on good authority that Hackney Ramblers are doing that gig.
Now then, who do we know that plays with Hackney Ramblers......? :-)

(and the Brits persecuted the Acadiens because they were French - I dont think religeon had anything to do with it. BUT the King of Spain wanted catholics in Louisiana as a buffer against the americains)

Yea you can hear it on-line. It is just that you have to tune-in to it at the correct time. No podcasts. However - if anyone can suggest another station to take the prog I will give it a try - they may have podcast licences.

& Greg - I have the two CD pack of the Boat Band so you are assured of a lot more plays.

And as for gig info - can I blame Motagator - or the people that told them?

Venue info is paramount, artist is second priority - turn up and it is another band you will dance anyway. Turn up on the wrong night and.......
