yes, I searched the Forum, specific and fuzzy. I heard this mentioned on the Grassroots to Bluegrass show on TNN the other night and would liek to know the words and the tune, if possible.

The title, I think, was "Get down off the stove, Dad/Grandma??; You're too old to ride the range".

Thanks,

kat

we had a thread on this recently. it was grandma. i didn't follow it, so i don't know anything more than that (whether the complete lyrics were actually found, etc.)

a forum search going back three months should be sufficient.

: )

I always thought it was just one of those "song titles" that folks love to toss around -- like "Run into the round-house, Nellie; they can't corner you there!" I'll keep watching to see if someone comes up with an actual song. Meanwhile, I'll keep singing Utah Phillips' "Goodnight-Loving Trail" in which the "old woman" (cook) is "too old to wrangle or ride on the swing." Great song!

Sandy

I can confirm that there is indeed a song by that salubrious title. It is on a CD by a young band called "Lady Winwoods Maggots". My son played 5-String Bass on it. It's terrible !!! HarryO

Thanks, Emily and Sandy. I think there must be an actual song, as it was Mac Wiseman or one of the other old-timers who mentioend it the other night on the program. Then again, they way they were telling stories, it could've been one of those folk "titles", a song in name only. **BG** Sandy, I will go check out the Utah P. one. And, Emily, I will hunt down the thread. Thanks!

kat
