This works for me, although I always capo it to the second or thrird fret.

(C)Come all you (F)maids that (C)live at a (G)dis(C)tance

Many a (Am)mile from (F)off your (G)swain

Come (C)and (F)assist me this (C)very (G)mo(C)ment

For to (F)pass (G)away some (C)time.

(F)Singing sweetly and com(G)pletely

(C)Songs of (Am)pleasure (F)and of (G)love

For my (C)heart is (F)with him (C)all (G)to(C)gether

Though I (F)live not (G)where I (C)love.

Yes a really beautiful song.

I remember meeting him and Maddy at Ashley House folk club in 1969 ish, lovely approachable couple and great music.

I think we paid them about £20.00 (well John Haywood did anyway).

I was just the amateurish compere/player.

RIP Tim.

A notable called Tez in Coventry Mummers used to sing the song. He sang '...my heart is withered altogether.....' which I thought fitted a masculine version better than 'with her.'

35 years removed, I can't remember Tez's surname.

I play it a bit differently as I liked Linda Thompson's version on a solo album of hers with (I think) Simon Nicoll providing the guitar accompaniment. At least it's how I remember it - as in many of these things it may not be much like it :)

I bashed up a quick video onto Youtube - I Live Not Where I Love - which gives the basic idea. Seems to work for me anyway!

The capo leaves the 6th string open so I have an option of the low D without needing longer fingers than I have.

It's pretty much G - Am7 - G/B - Dsus - G - C - G/B - Am7 - G - D7/F# - D
C - Cmaj7 - C - G/B - Am7 - D - G - Am7 - D7

I can't say why the idea occurred to me but when I play it I start by playing the first part of Shepherds Hey as an introduction and the last line of the first part between the verses and repeating the first part again at the end.
