I'm out of this thread, y'all have fun rehashing the old boring argument about which OS is best ...

Ya know, I have used iTunes for years and have never had any problems with it. It's a very useful and serviceable piece of software.

Maybe you should be running OSX.

I've been running iTunes for years on a series of Macs without the slightest bit of trouble. It seems to me that the problems reported relate to running iTunes on windows - which would suggest to me that the problems lie with the operating system rather than iTunes itself.

If you don't like iTunes, perhaps you ought to buy something manufactured by microsoft specifically to run on windows - if there is such a beast!

But I'm fast coming to the conclusion that iTunes is the most dysfunctional piece of s***e I've ever encountered.

You'd be right there - I love my iPod but loath iTunes with a worrying intensirty ...

sfmans. Thanks. I've just declicked the compatability box. Now, to see if it works. I installed iTunes a while ago when I bought an Ipod and had to reinstall it when I started getting all kinds of clashes, and refusals to work. I have absolutely no idea why it should suddenly decide it was set up for an older version of Windows. But I'm fast coming to the conclusion that iTunes is the most dysfunctional piece of s***e I've ever encountered.

There two parts to this -

1) How to do it
2) Why on earth it's running iTunes in compatibility mode in the first place.

To answer
1) first - right-click the iTunes icon and select Properties. You'll get a tabbed box with various settings on it - choose the Compatibility tab. To turn off Compatibity mode, uncheck the box that says 'Run tis program in compatibity mode for'. Click OK. iTunes should now run without complaint (well, it is iTunes, but you know what I mean).
2) No idea. Did you install an old version of the software? Did you install it in safe mode, or, er, well dunno really (assuming we can discount User Error, a.k.a. Random Clicking Disease, having set the compatibity mode in the first place.

I have no idea. I'm currently fighting Win7 to get some old games to run - the best answer I can find is that while some stuff will run in a special loader module available as a download, that only works on the 'expensive business versions' - and doesn't work for any games - and not all programs work, just the ones that MS tried to 'fix'.

To get into compatibility set up mode, - oh bugger, I've forgotten again!... can't see it in Control Panel - think you get to it from a right click on the desktop program startup link - if you created one ....

I can see why MS wants to con us all into using "ClodCloud Computing"...

I've just had to reinstall Itunes and it is now coming up with the following message.

"iTunes has been set to run in compatability mode for an older version of Windows. For best results turn off compatability mode for iTunes before you open it."

There is nothing in the iTunes manual or HELP facility that I can see. Would anyone out there know how I carry out this instruction? I'm on Windows 7 by the way.

Many anticipatory thanks.
