I first heard about Gordon Bok via Makem & Clancy with the song The Hills Of Isle Au Haut. But now I found 31 songs by him in de Digitrad. Can somebody tell me more about him? His name sounds Dutch, by the way.

Gordon lives in Camden, Maine. Does concerts alone or with his wife, harp-player Carol, or with Ann Mayo Muir and Ed Trickett, with whom he has made a number of records, many now on CD. He comes from the Curtis/Bok family, well-known in Philadelphia. Yes, Bok is a Dutch name (goat). The family was involved in the Curtis Publishing Company (very successful, at one time (Saturday Evening Post, Colliers, etc.). Gordon has made many records, written many fine songs, sings in a deep baritone voice, and plays a lot of guitar (classical and 12-string).

I was hoping SAndy would answer that inquiry. To Gordon Bok's many recordings you can add a songbook with some great songs, drawings, and annotation. He's also a great storyteller - check out "Seal Djiril's Hymn" for some evocative music and storytelling. Every time I sing a song by him someone sighs and says "I just love his music".

Glad to see this thread. Gordon Bok has long been one of my most favorite singers, and writers as well, and guitarists. An artist and woodcarver too. Is there no beginning to this man's talent. My favorite cut on the Anne Hills & Cindy Magnuson recording, one with many good tracks, is Gordon Bok singing Master Kilby. Heard him a few times in concerts and festivals when living in Virginia. Here in the Ozarks, not at all in person, darn it. By the good graces of Folk Legacy, can listen to his recordings. Thanks Sandy!

And why not? Otherwise Life Gets Tedious, Don't It, Kendall? You might as well be Going Back to Where I Come From. 'Course, Moose Turd Pie is on the other recording (Seagulls and Summer People. Now let's see if those new green-linky-thingies work on these titles.

Yep they seem to work Sandy..........and allow me to congratulate you on being the FIRST to have "Moose Turd Pie" in green!!! I'm hoping to be the second. And just to be mt ornery ass self, I'll have to mention Caroline here to see the combination which I'm SURE she'll appreciate. Remember, this would be YOUR fault as you brought it up.

I thought it meant that he'd been eating my mom's asparagus or something. I'm glad you guys are such authorities.

Gordon also did wonderful harmony on Fred Small's Over the Olsund (don't know how to do the omlauds sorry, nor do I know how to spell, but that's a given.) It's on Fred's I will Stand Fast album, one of his better ones, in my opinion. Some very good story/songs and not too much touchey-feely stuff for my taste, bein' yankee and all.
