Fans of the Irish Concertina may be interested to know that I've just launched this site!

The Irish Concertina

N.B. This website is dedicated to promoting the playing of Irish Music on the Concertina & just for the record, the term Irish Concertina is more to do with the music played, so the instrument can be either Anglo or English.

Cheers
Dick

Thanks for that Dick.
Coincidentally, I have just been speaking to Stephen Chambers who runs the local music shop here in Miltown Malbay and who is giving a talk on the subject to our local history society on the 14th of this month. The talk is entitled ''The Concertina - Designed by Foreigners for the use of Peasants……'' (a quote from Sean O'Riarda.)
In West Clare, the concertina has always been very popular, especially favoured by women players.
One old player, originally from a few miles from here, once counted out 37 women players he recalled from his youth, living within walking distance of his home.
The instrument remains extremely popular, again among women, one of the finest players being Edel Fox, who not only has made a name for herself internationally, but is passing on her skills to many of the local youngsters.

Thanks for the info Jim, I've added details of that Event to the site.

"Designed by foreigners for the use of peasants... The Concertina"

You are welcome Dick & yes thanks, I've already added a couple of your YouTubes ... all part of the picture, after all. ;-)

I'll also see if I can track down a good YouTube of Colum singing with his Concertina.

Cheers
Dick

Chris Sherburn - from Yorkshire - is a very fine player of Irish music on the Anglo. I spent a pleasant evening at the Ram Club recently, listening to Chris and partner Denny Bartley.
