FYI:
Jean Ritchie's first LP, Elektra EKL2 Jean Ritchie - Singing the Traditional Songs of Her Kentucky Mountain Family, has been reissued by TARTARE,
a subsidiary of Collectors Choice - apparently a line of CD-R issues.
Most of that album was reissued by Rhino Handmade, but that limited
edition appears to be sold out, now available only as a digital download.
I would prefer pressed cd's, but unless there is a huge change in the marketplace, mp3 downloads or cd-r's will be the only way to obtain this material.
Best wishes, Thomas.

Unfortunately, Jean Ritchie was not shown on the show, if it's the one I think you're talking about. Personally, I found the show disappointing for two reasons. a. Although, in their own words, Pete Seeger is considered the dean of that era in folk music, he only sang one song. Actually, I wasn't very fond of many of the singers on the show. They could have put on some better artists, like Jean Ritchie, for one. b. They spent too much of the time slot trying to beg for funds of PBS, at least on my station. That took up about half the show.

Too bad it's not a re-run of this series, which I must have missed (which is what came up first in searching at PBS): American Roots Music, a 4-part series from 2001. They do have lengthy transcriptions of interviews on that site, but no video...

James Cotton
Bela Fleck
Arlo Guthrie
Buddy Guy
Flaco Jimenez
B. B. King
Alan Lomax
Willie Nelson

DVD is available from Amazon: click.

(No Jean Ritchie on this one, though.)

Doesn't look like it's PBS production (though on public TV), it's a pledge week item.

Here's an article: John Sebastian Presents: Folk Rewind. "Sebastian is the host for this salute to folk music of the past that includes legends of the folk world reunited to sing some of their greatest songs."

Many stations carry this blurb: "A John Sebastian-hosted celebration of the 1960s' folk-music boom, featuring archival footage of the era's top performers and modern-day performances by Barry McGuire, Roger McGuinn, the Chad Mitchell Trio, Chad and Jeremy, and Jesse Colin Young."

Also on the TV show (and CD) is the Chad Mitchell Trio, with Mudcatter Joe Frazier.

Do you have a link for the series? I don't have TV (the broadcast or cable kind) and I would need to watch on the Internet.

This weekend PBS has launched a series on Folk Music, from traditional to singer songwriter to pop influenced.
There's a CD set for the program, and our own
Jean Ritchie is included.
