Pete Grassby might be your man. He's the leader of Aardvark Ceilidh band and knwos of such things.

Sorry ... was away for the weekend!

I think they could probably go to £350 or thereabouts for a good box. Probably not over £400.

:-)

Do have a budget figure?

I know someone who might be selling an E German Pokerwork lookalike for around £250 plus P&P but it's in Dorset. Seems to play OK.

Yep, I'm told the newer ones are OK.

However, I replaced a total of 14 springs for someone on a Chinese box, now about 3 years old, over the course of a year (it was only 1 year old when the 1st spring broke). Makes you a bit wary.

My 32 year old German D/G Pokerwork has never had a problem, has an excellent action and I love it. It doesn't look so good now but has been an absolute treasure.

:-)

The chinese pokerworks are pretty good. I tried one last year and was impressed by the tone. Always a good box as you can mostly get your money back if you decide to jack it in or if you upgrade.

Thanks

I'm doing all those things, but I've managed to get a couple of melodeons for students off Mudcat in the past so thought I'd ask here this time too.

Keep looking - there are all sorts going up for sale.
Might be worth joining melnet and posting a "wanted" notice too.
Watch eBay, of course.

Thanks, I do look at that but they're usually better (and thus more highly priced) boxes.

Try melodeon.net . There's a buy and sell section in the forum

Hi.

I've got another new student wanting to learn melodeon and I need to find a good basic G/D box for her. Hohner pokerwork or equivalent.

My students seldom have very much money so I can't offer the earth but it would be a good home for a box, with an appreciative user.

Let me know by pm or on this thread if you have one lying around that you don't use or one you'd like to sell.

Thanks
Ian
