Well, here's something to warm the cockles of your collective hearts in anticipation of our booking at The Robber's Dog in Sheffield on the 11th of December - weather permitting of course, but we remain optimistic that by then we'll be sweltering in a premature spring.

Anyway - we recorded last night's rehearsal in which we stretched out on The Gower Wassail and segued into a jolly wee song about a dying Robin Redbreast bequeathing various body parts by way of his Testament - complete with some hearty dance sequences improvised along the merry way - and all of this you might have gratis if you follow the link HERE. This is all live in the Barley Temple; no dubs, just a touch of reverb by way of upping the old atmos...

Please note that whilst we'll be featuring both these songs at The Robber's Dog, they'll be presented according to the Rapunzel & Sedayne Code of Folk 'n' Fun as befits the season, of course.

Just listening again to last year's recording of the Gower Wassail on YouTube - and enjoying it just as much.

Have a great gig at Sheffield. Break a leg - but not from the ice and snow I trust!

(Soon be time to snuggle down with Michael Hordern again...) :-)

Cheers, Will! We've revisited Gower with a rockier feel - although it's still just crwth & frame drum + a little Kaossilator to spooky things up a bit.

Sheffield gig looks like its going to be good night; a bit of Bellamy / Kipling celebration too so I'm told, so lots of other singers in there tioo, although we are up against at least one carolling session...

Michael Hordern - and Times and Tradition for Dulcimer, which always comes out at this time of year too. Just chatting with Bill Leader about it the other day actually. Just done a piece called RATS which samples Michael Hordern's intro.

More pics up on the Blog anyway; Green Men from July and us with Bill last week.

Just downloaded the recent recording.

Staring out through the windows at the deep snow in the starlight - glass of brandy in hand and the recording playing from my iPod...

Hearts cockles certainly warmed!

That's the ticket! Actually we've been snow-free in Fleetwood so far - a few flakes the other day but it's coming down now a wee bit...

Hi R & S - I too am looking forward to the gig muchly, and to meeting you both at long last. I shall also be participating in the Kipling/Bellamy part of the proceedings.
All of this, of course, is dependent on this cursed weather - at present I am utterly snowed in with no prospect of a thaw. We can only hope for a clearance of some measure before 11th.
MM

Cheers, MM - it's beginning to get white over here, but nothing too drastic as yet. Still, fingers crossed, eh? Getting over the top could yet be a problem...

Okay - there's been a welcome shift in the weather of late, so we'll be off to Sheffield tomorrow complete with our various wares - including a special 45-minute CD-R entitled Hearth-Fire & Home-Acre and copies of the newly released We Bring You a King with a Head of Gold : Dark Brittanica 2 on which we have three tracks, two of which we'll be doing in Sheffield.

We gave our Gower Wassail a festive airing last night at the Fylde Festival Xmas Social where it served unwittingly as background muzak for the traditional serving of hot-pot & pickled cabbage. Very nice! Here's that link again, refreshed until the 17th:

Still hoping to make it to Sheffield tomorrow S O'P and join in your Kipling/Bellamy celebrations (now how exactly does that fit in with you and Rapunzel?).

Meanwhile, I have tried the Gower Wassail link again but it persists in "hanging"...

I think it's because we're Bellamists, MM - and we take the Bellamy remit in disregarding so small a thing as the Atlantic when it comes to a consideration of the English Speaking Folk Song & Ballad Tradition as a whole. Also we've got a song on the forthcoming Folk Police Oak Ash & Thorn project album, so The Curator thought it was a good excuse for A Themed Evening.

Looking forward to seeing you!
