Liberace! Ach! The first place I remember living (47th St. in West Allis which is a suburb of Milwaukee, Wisconsin) when I was 3 and 4 years old was about a block away from where Liberace grew up and where his mother still lived (c. 1953).

Actually, a few years ago I came into possession of several videotapes of Liberace's 1950s TV show. He was BRILLIANT, way ahead of his time, bringing classical music to the masses, making it interesting. That was back in the era when he wore a fairly conservative tailcoat (black tie), had his brother George occasionally accompany him on violin, and had a candelabra on the grand piano. The cinematography was exceptional; sometimes he was filmed in silhouette through draperies, the camera never static, his smile flashing broadly at every opportunity.

I phoned Santa and perhaps (in fact certainly) didn't understand my accent as I recieved in my sock, a 12 inch statue of Liberace !!!.

Tom's voice back with strength and resonance of old...but, thanks to Dr. Zeitels, we're well on the way! I desperately want to sing with Tom again!

And a new knee without having to lose six weeks pay while doing physical therapy. Barring that, how about a little LESS of something...such as pain. And a decent night's sleep...lots of them. Maybe being able to sleep on my side instead of propped up on my back with two pillows under my knee. (Ah, the things you don't appreciate until you can't have them.)

Oh, yeah, and world peace, an end to hunger, a job and a decent wage for everyone who needs one, a few more medical breakthroughs (and Dr. Z. getting his biogel approved by the FDA), a sensible energy policy with no massive oil spills, mountaintop removal, etcet etcet, governments and factions willing to talk first instead of reaching for the gun, the bomb, the suicide bomber, a couple political parties that can manage to work together for the good of the population instead of trying to satisfy the greed of those who already have too much, religions that start living up to their message...

My granddaughter is visiting for Christmas which is lovely. She's 20 months old and starting to talk. It's a fascinating age as they are really developing quickly. I remember my own kids at that age.

Oh and I asked my wife to get me a Chris Harvey Jig Doll. Will Fly's Beaky has a lot to answer for :-)

When we show my granddaughter the You Tube Beaky clip, she points at it and says "Doodle, Doodle!".

a ¼" BSF stud, bolt...anything with a few threads on it. I need it to fix my (English)Myford wood lathe, and you simply can't find them in the USA!

(When I bought the lathe, they sent me a standard flat-blade screwdriver, of which I have 20, and did NOT include the BSF stud needed to access the headstock gears for lubrication.)

Actually - this sounds a bit like some of the comments on the back page of my local paper in the dating section. I can understand any confussion Mike.

I'm also hoping for good enough weather next week to get to the Christmas do - mainly carols - that we do for the old people's day centre. We had to negotiate with a neighbour last week to get us and our eqipement to the barn dance. perhaps I should be asking for a 4 by 4 - but perhaps not.

Think I already got mine: nice digital piano, and have just had delivery of a gig bag and dust cover for it. Have asked the (grown-up) kids to buy me a better pedal than the one that came with it!

Anyway, I thought it might be a good way of getting ideas for what to give - or indeed what to hope to get. And maybe a way for people to drop hints.

Should this be a BS thread? Well, since I suspect some of the most interesting ideas might be related to music, not necessarily.
