Subject: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Bonzo3legs Date: 08 Dec 10 - 06:42 PM A superb evening except for the boring tunes from her band. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: GUEST,Ralphie Date: 09 Dec 10 - 01:44 AM Thank you Bonzo for such an erudite critique. How you managed to sum up an entire performance in just 11 words is astonishing. Hope the bootleg recording went well. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Bonzo3legs Date: 09 Dec 10 - 05:12 AM I appreciate your appreciation. I'm sure the press will provide a suitable critique as you put it! |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: GUEST,Chordcrasher Date: 09 Dec 10 - 09:38 AM Saw Kate Rusby at Great British Folk Festival at Butlins Skegness at the weekend. Her band are a bit plodding to say the least. She also spends far too much time talking. The weekend saved by the Oysterband who were incredible and 9 Below Zero who although were in laidback Sun Lunch mode were still stonkin. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Bonzo3legs Date: 09 Dec 10 - 10:15 AM The squeezebox player showed occasional spark last night and almost broke into a morris tune at one point I thought. I agree the band were slightly plodding but enjoyed the overall sound. Quite a dark stage setting so even if allowed, hopeless for photography. Worth the £12 parking in Croydon - yes, and they were serving large chunks of half decent Christmas cake in the RFH cafeteria. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: GUEST,Great Busby Date: 09 Dec 10 - 11:29 AM I saw this concert, it was good except one bad bit. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Paco O'Barmy Date: 09 Dec 10 - 04:04 PM I was there too. When you go to a Kate Rusby concert, you want to hear Kate. You don't want to hear interminable tune sessions by her backing band, designed to massage their egos by proving (to themselves)that they can do more than just back Ms Rusby! |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: GUEST,Great Busby Date: 09 Dec 10 - 06:19 PM Was that addressed at me, Paco? How dare you make assumptions as to what I do and do not want. For your information, the one bad bit I was referring to was when I sat on some chuggy. I thought her band were excellent and I loved when they played their tunes as I thought "good, this will be annoying all the Ronan Keating fans". |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Bonzo3legs Date: 10 Dec 10 - 02:54 AM I agree with you Paco. Who on earth is Ronan Keating? |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Bonzo3legs Date: 10 Dec 10 - 04:33 AM I thought her band were average and her husband sang flat for much of his song. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: GUEST,Great Busby Date: 10 Dec 10 - 08:24 AM I thought the audience were great except for a few moaning old soaks. |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Bonzo3legs Date: 10 Dec 10 - 09:37 AM Where we sat - row R for the first half and a few rows behind for the second, if you didn't have a cough when you went in you certainly would when you left. People where coughing and sneezing into the air without covering their faces - very inconsiderate. I think I enjoyed "The Wren" most which was called something completely different on Steeleye's "Pleased to see the King" LP. We travel to see The Albion Christmas Band tomorrow. |

Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: Bonzo3legs Date: 11 Dec 10 - 05:44 AM Part of the concert is being broadcast on Christmas Eve on R3 "World on 3". |
Subject: RE: Kate Rusby at RFH From: SteveMansfield Date: 11 Dec 10 - 10:22 AM Who is her husband? Damien O'Kane, plays guitar, banjo etc. Fact break over folks, back to the whingeing & sniping! |
