Subject: CLECKHEATON CHRISTMAS CAROLS From: Shantyfreak Date: 10 Dec 10 - 11:44 AM For a fair few years now I have indulged myself on Boxing Day with a visit to the Wickham Arms in Cleckheaton for a grand Carol session and I am pleased to say that I shall be doing so again this tear. Starting roundabout noon on Boxing Day people gather in the club room of the Panther Folk Club at the Whickham Arms. Words are provided for those who need them and music is provided by club regular John Browell. For a couple of hours of good clean fun it is hard to beat. At some point during the session we are entertained by the Spen Long Sword Team on their annual round of the local hostelries who join in with a few carols and perform a few dances. Steve, our genial host, is more than happy to sell you drinks of your choice from his well stocked cellar and there may even be the odd mince pie or piece of cake - so why not come along and join us. You'll be welcome and you don't even have to give anyone a Christmas present. I look forward to seeing you there. Jim |
