The Burnett Ms. contains around 80 tunes, mainly hornpipes. Burnett mentions James Knight by name - his hornpipe is in the key of F major. This is the link with the BFs and a large percentage of these tunes are such that they are unique to the area and more difficult than the average 'folk' tune. Only a relatively small number of the tunes are in G & D. More common are F/Dm and Bb/Gm with C/Am and A/F#m also appearing. The thing is the book was discovered in a fiddle case with a fiddle so we have to accept that as the instrument on which they were played.
We have an option on the Hillsborough Hotel on 2nd Wednesday of the month for a regular session. Any good?

How many of the Blind Fiddler's tunes were noted down, Paul? And I would be interested in learning/playing them - depending on venue and time.

For a period of about 10 years the South Riding Folk Arts Network held a session in the Red House in Sheffield. The purpose of this was to promote the repertoire of tunes which were local to the city and its surrounding area. In preparing for the 'Total Eclipse' Blind Fiddler's Benefit, a few of us got together to practice some of these tunes. It was mooted that we might start a monthly session to promote the local tunes and songs. Is anyone out there interested?
