Dec 19th HANK WANGFORD with Andy Roberts £11 adv
After a memorable evening three years ago we're delighted to welcome Hank back to entertain us again at our Xmas party!
If Daniel O'Donnell is the brightly scrubbed face of British country music then Hank Wangford is its guilty conscience, its dark and troubled grubby soul. Hank has picked at the miserable underbelly of country music for over twenty years. He has spread the word with his two television series, "Big Big Country" and "The A to Z of C&W" and his books "Lost Cowboys" and "Hank Wangford Vol 3 The Middle Years". This messianic derailment onto the path of country music came from befriending and playing with Gram Parsons, ex-Byrds and Flying Burrito Brothers, in the seventies. Hank has since become the UK's country music father figure. As well as songs both solo & together, there will be stories and poetry from the highway of life.
At Twickfolk Hank will be pleased and proud to offer copies of his albums including "Best Foot Forward - Songs from the Ledge" alongside earlier classic releases on the well stocked $incere Product$ stall. Hank is looking forward to returning to a Cabbage Patch close to a Rugby Stadium near you and can't wait to be once again "trickin 'em in Twickenham". He promises to shake hands, meet'n'greet, swop songs and stories....."We're Bringing Country to the Country."
Riding shotgun alongside Hank at TwickFolk will be his old compadre Brad Breath. Brad was the guitarist in the first and best incarnation of the Hank Wangford Band but perhaps is better known under his alter ego, Andy Roberts who has played with the The Liverpool Scene, Plainsong, The Scaffold, Roy Harper, Chris Spedding, Pink Floyd, Kevin Ayers, Vivian Stanshall and Grimms. He has also done many sessions for artists such as Richard Thompson and Maddy Prior, and has been a musical partner to Iain Matthews for 30 years. He has written film scores, themes for TV series, backed Billy Connolly, provided music and voice for Spitting Image and continues to create musical backdrops for the poetry of Roger McGough. Like Hank, Andy has also played at TwickFolk previously (in the company of Julian Dawson)
This is going to be a memorable occasion as we head into the Christmas season (and Hank promises there'll be plenty of opportunities to get those last minute presents and stocking fillers from the $incere Product$ stall). As he says "We urge you good people to patronise us the way we are going to continue patronising you."
