I am not discussing folk waves program it is an example of a disturbing trend. I want to discuss the trend of the narrowness of the community and titled the thread appropriately put it back in its own thread. It is appropriate that the views of some that there is nothing wrong with the folk community remaining small be discussed in the light of the bBC cutting the program because it was considered minority programing. I would hope that people could realize the importance of growing the community rather than letting it remain narrowly defined and small.

Conrad who wants his one thread a day right

Conrad, from my own long experience, it usually works better to send your message about changing a mod's thread decision via PM or email to a site mod. Then to be patient. Sometimes it takes letting some heat die down and then starting a new thread (maybe better titled or better started)-- not saying yours was not done well (haven't looked), but just my own experience.

You would do well to retitle this thread 'Confusion'!

Please Joe, or one of the other fair-minded mods, could you intervene positively.

*#1 PEASANT* is justifiably not happy with what's happened, and folk on the other thread will be concerned
that the 'arbitrarily dumped' posts will not benefit the clarity of focus of a very serious issue under debate.

Thank you.

Well, let's see:
Over the last few hours, Conrad started two threads:

  • BS: Narrow Minded Folk World Looses [sic] Program
  • Folklore: Folkie In group mentality causes cuts
Now, both of these threads were about the end of the Folkwaves program on BBC, and there already was a current thread on that subject (click). Mudcat policy has long stated that we allow only one current thread on any given subject, so Conrad's threads were combined with the existing thread. With few exceptions, consistently identified posters have control over the contents of the messages they post, but we retain control over threads and reserve the right to combine threads where needed.

Conrad's attempt to triplicate the discussion would only have served to confuse things, so that's why we combined the threads. I note also that Conrad's thread titles were clearly an attempt to editorialize. Editorialize all you want within the text of your message, but please make sure that thread titles primarily serve to clearly describe the contents of the thread.

I'm sorry, but we don't subscribe to Conrad's "More is better" philosophy of thread creation. For many of us, that's just plain confusing. Conrad is one of the most prolific thread initiators amongst us - and most of his new threads could easily have been part of the discussion in existing threads. Conrad, one thread a day is our maximum limit for thread creation, not your regular allotment - and it applies only when you have new topics to discuss. You claim that your new threads were not discussing the Folkwaves program, despite your mention of the program in both messages. Nonetheless, your messages do fit very well into the existing discussion.

If you wish to discuss this any further, please contact me by personal message or e-mail. Thanks.
