Subject: Mudcat Seasonal CD 2011
From: bradfordian
Date: 19 Dec 10 - 05:25 AM

It was suggested to run a Mudcat Holiday/Hanuka/Christmas/Winter/Seasonal CD along side the Blue Plate Special 2, and I have been accepting input and will continue to do so. Just a case of giving this CD its own focus seperate from BPS2.

The reasoning behind this concept is that such songs would have a low priority of getting into the BPS2 in their own right because of their seasonal nature.
I cannot see that there is going to be another chance to make such a CD, so I would like to encourage you all to take advantage of this unique opportunity.
Now when you consider how many members we have here, and how many suitable songs/tunes there must be, can it be that hard to get 20 items for this CD?

I have 5 contributions thus far, so am looking for a mere 15 more(songs or tunes), so while we are in holiday mood, let me see them pledges coming in.

Remember, same timescale and rules about copyright applies.

Barry, if this project comes together, I'd love to have a copy. Seems like it could be very helpful for ideas for holiday gigs.

best,

I am sure the Stoke-on-Trent Mystery Singers will provide a suitable carol. And I'll mention this to the Boat Band, who might come up with something appropriate.

I have read a story which ran on Ron Olesko's Mudcat Christmas radio show years ago. Would that be appropriate? It's called Golden Cobwebs and is from a very old book of my grandma's. If not, it's okay...we've got songs, too.:-)

The thread about the Blue Plate Special 2 appears to be this one. However, it's now 120 messages long, and the instruction on this thread, "Details as for Blue Plate special 2 -- Please refer to that thread for further info", isn't very helpful.

I suggest that bradfordian simply state the requirements for the proposed seasonal CD. That would make things much more straightforward.

We have a couple of possible songs for this. One really needs a chorus so will take a little longer to sort out a recording, the other is quite straightforward. We might be able to do both next week though.

Useful information from the Blue Plate thread for those in need of it:

"Send your material electronically to

barriemathers@ntlworld.com

uncompressed files are preferred eg WAVs (I'll clear my mailbox regularly)

will also take videos and extract the sound.(copies of originals please -- don't send stuff from u-toob)

Any MEMBER can send in more than 1 item, but each should be accompanied by details ie performer (as before, Mudcat names will be used) author (lyrics) composer (tune)

I am happy to take items from existing CDs where ownership is demonstrated.

You need to have copyright, or copyright holders permission, or it can of course be public domain.

I will consult with colleagues from Mudcat regarding content for each CD, and indeed all aspects of this project will be a team effort.

bradfordian

PS. email or PM me for any further queries "

Amos - that song is no doubt copyrighted by Jackson Browne. I thought only trad and self-composed material applied.

Let's hope Jackson Browne still holds the copyright & will give Amos permission.   But you really should line up bagpipers to back you up, Amos, like the Chieftains did for Jackson B on The Bells Of Dublin.

Well shoot, I was thinking about submitting The Rebel Jesus myself. My band has a really nice four-part a capella arrangement that we've been doing... sounds just like a Christmas carol.

By the way, I've heard it said that it's easier to get forgiveness than permission. But that may not be true in the music industry...

I've already offered my "December Waltz" but also have another original song (not yet recorded) called "Every Day is Christmas" if you run short of songs.

I could send "Singing With The Big Choir" instead, but you said you'd prefer "Raise Your Voices ...".

I shall continue to use this thread for the Seasonal CD upto 100-150 posts.
I would like to get this one sorted in front of the other set.

So, although I may have some already, I would still like a comment of around 40 words to go with each title,
and as I would like to put a pdf on the disc, if you have not yet sent them to me, please let me have your lyrics.

This is the provisional listing for the SEASONAL CD
Where there is a single question mark at the end of the line, I'm looking for confirmation for use of the name as performer on the CD
Where there are TWO question marks, I'm looking for inspiration on what name to use for performer.
STAR means I'm 99.9% sure of that name

IT WOULD BE GREAT IF EACH 'CATTER COULD PM ME WITH APPROPRIATE INFO
and of course any typos, spellings, grammar, wrong data etc, etc, etc.
