Subject: Tech: The Manchester Tram From: Les in Chorlton Date: 19 Dec 10 - 06:38 AM Probably a bit parochial but who knows: The tram currently runs across various parts of Manchester - quick and often. In Spring the extension will open linking Chorlton to town via Old Trafford and hence on to Eccles and Bury. Should we as fokies be looking at the potential for getting to each others clubs and for checking out venues for possible events either side of the Metro routes? "Full Circle Folk Club Friday: Parkside Hotel, 281 Bury Old Rd, Prestwich, Manchester, M25 1JA 8:30 (0161 681 1593) 2 mins from the Metro". Is a good example of a club that can be reached via the tram. Any good ideas? L in C# |
Subject: RE: The Manchester Tram From: Tootler Date: 19 Dec 10 - 10:30 AM Why not? Providing the trams run late enough and you are reasonably close to a tram stop at home, then it is a good idea to use the trams rather than your car. You can have a drink without worrying about the consequences then. A couple of years ago, I was staying in Tunbridge Wells over a weekend and I thought I would visit Orpington Friday Folk Club. I could have taken my car, but I found there was a 20 minute train service and the club was just a few minutes walk from the station, so I used the train. At home using the buses is not practical as the bus services near my house either go nowhere near any folk clubs locally or, in the case of a couple that do, finish far too early in the evening to be of any practical use. |
Subject: RE: The Manchester Tram From: Les in Chorlton Date: 19 Dec 10 - 10:49 AM Perhaps a good start would be a map of Greater Manchester showing all its pubs. Anyone know of such? # L in C |
Subject: RE: The Manchester Tram From: Tootler Date: 19 Dec 10 - 11:12 AM Knowing where the folk clubs are and linking them to the tram routes might be a more practical start. |

Getting to clubs not too much of problem but getting back is. Prestwich (the Parkside behind Heaton Park) is good example tho Friday's not always good for me. Be nice if Unicorn in Church St was going agin; Two Tubs in Bury?; |
