Subject: Lyr Req: Tooze was a baby rabbit...
From: GUEST,T. J.

Hi folks,

I remember hearing an old song about a baby rabbit called Tooze, Lyrics including "My Tooze was a baby rabbit, it was a friend of mine..." Do anybody here know this song?

Thanks,
TJ

That was a song by John Denver. The name was 'Tools,' not Tooze.

I went to Google Advanced Search and put this:

was a baby rabbit,he was a friend of mine you will find many pages with the lyrics.

Oops. Something went wrong there.

Put:

was a baby rabbit, he was a friend of mine

into the box that says Containing the Exact Words.

This will bring up many choices. I leave it to you to choose the sites you want to look at.

Trapper, the second verse there (referring to rabbit stew) was NOT recorded by John Denver, although it has propagated among the various auto-lyrics sites.

The second verse is a parody. It's not in the original lyrics or the original recording. Actually I've never heard anybody singing it.

By the way, the Chinese word for rabbit is "tuzi", which pronounces exactly the same with "Tools". Isn't that interesting? Lol~

Subject: Lyr Add: TOOLS (John Denver)

You can see a video of John Denver singing TOOLS at YouTube, in an excerpt from a 1973 TV show. TOOLS also appeared on Denver's album "Aerie" (1971). These are the words he sings in the video:

Tools was baby rabbit. He was a friend of mine.
His mama and papa, and brothers and sisters left him all behind.
He came into our house to brighten up a couple of days
Tools, you made me smile a lot and I wish you could have stayed.
