BBC ALBA to go on Freeview!

Hey this is great news, especially as there's certainly no way I was ever going to be throwing any money at Rupert Murdoch for Sky!
He's rich enough as it is & anyway, I've got enough channels full of $h!te as it is! :-(

Let's just hope that us folks over here in Norn Iron, plus those in England & Wales, will also be able to watch BBC Alba on our Freeview?

Fingers crossed!

Cheers
Dick

P.S. Sorry folks, I've just heard now that it's only for Scotland! :-(

It's been on gratis via a Sky box for quite some time (Channel 168), which hasn't involved any further payment to Vince Cable's nemesis beyond buying the box. Some excellent folk shows, often on Saturday and Sunday nights. The likes of Kate Rusby turn up too - it's not wholly Gaelic. Last Sunday night was "Na Trads", a sort of Scottish musical awards ceremony with interval acts like The McCalmans and presenters including Mary Ann Kennedy and Julie Fowlis.

(BTW I'm not Scottish and live in Somerset so I'm not the target audience I suppose !)

We have just gone Freesat and were delighted to find BBC Alba is available on this service.

Where do you live G-Force?

I'm thinking of going down the Freesat route too, but only if I know I can then access some quality viewing, like BBC Alba.
I'm not interested in more drivel & mountains of adverts!

I have no Satellite dish yet, so that's gong to cost me!

Cheers
Dick

We're in Surrey, but Freesat is available everywhere you can get a signal from the Astra2/Eurobird satellites, which is just about everywhere in UK unless you're behind a hill or a skyscraper or something.

It's channel 110 on freesat. A lot of the time it's just relaying gaelic radio, but there's TV in the evenings.

Ptarmigan, apart from BBC Alba, freesat doesn't get you much more than freeview does except for all sorts of crap you probably wouldn't want. We only got freesat because we can't reliably get anything else and don't want to pay subscription for cable or sky.

I had a satellite dish fitted gratis to my almshouse about 2 years ago ; I can't afford (and don't want) Sky tv, but recently bought a "freeview" box from "Argos" ( made by "Bush"), for £29-99.It's brilliant !! And one of the first things I found on it was "Alba",which is great to watch/listen to if you're interested in other languages ; I love "Alba" !!

"freesat doesn't get you much more than freeview does except for all sorts of crap you probably wouldn't want."

It depends which version of Freeview you can receive. If you're on a relay transmitter, like we are, you get a very limited selection of channels so Freesat is a good option. You don't even need to live out in the wilds to get limited Freeview - we live 20 miles south of Manchester and a similar distance west of Sheffield.

I think that if I lived where Ptarmigan does, I would spend the days looking out of the window and the evenings thinking about the view out of the window!
It looks fabulous.
