Tristan Seume used Powertab very successfully for the classes I attended.

I've used Tabledit a fair bit but I really hate it: compared to software for any other purpose (eg Microsoft Word, Excel, or Quark, InDesign etc etc) it feels like stepping back in time about 15 years.

It's OK if you're entering stuff without too many dotted notes - keeping things simple. I used it because there's a free version you can download. The free version was very limited, however - very bad if you want to add words to your songs - and I ended up paying 30 dollars for the full version.

But personally, with hindsight, I think I'd have gone for Sibelius First:

http://www.sibelius.com/products/sibelius_first/index.html

It's a lot more expensive (120 dollars I think).

However, there's a 30-day trial demo version.

I suggest you download that, and use your 30 days to write and print out what you want for the workshop.

(Before you start, make sure the demo version allows you to save and print. There's nothing on the website that suggests otherwise - it says it's a full version)

There's a thing Will did on a recent thread which suggests he knows what he is doing - Fingerpicking booklet

I'd PM Will Fly who does it beautifully and I'm sure he'd help

Or try Power tab
which was a free download last time I looked

Hi folks,
I am giving a guitar workshop at Dusty Strings, Seattle, in February, and would like to make a couple of pieces available to participants as tabs. Problem is, I've never read a guitar tab in my life (though I know the way they work) and have even less idea how to create them.

I've done a Mudcat search but not really found what I was looking for. It seems as though some people use Notepad and strings of hyphens interspersed with numbers, but if there's any user-friendly, free magic on the net I'd like to know about it. I'd prefer to enter notes manually, i.e. I don't want to enter stuff direct from music or abc or anything.

A chord shape maker would be handy too.

Thanks!
