Maybe not your model Phil but the guitar shaped bouzouki has been around for a long time, Andy Irvine has played one for years.

Yes indeed, superior instruments by Stefan Sobell, Nigel Forster, Hathway etc but I'm trying to provide a low-cost version with no waiting list, and one you can take down the pub.

I have one of the 'old' ones and am very pleased with it. I changed all the bridge pins to brass and it certainly changed the sound! One day I'll change them all back to remind myself of the difference. I suppose I'll have to decide if I prefer 'bright' or 'mellow'.

Easy to learn leeneia, plays just like a mandola tuned GDAE although I prefer GDAD. I have a 1st edition gazuki and after 'having it set up, it has an absolutely beautiful sound.
Ian, did the sound change to or from mellow with the brass pins?

Hi Abdul,

The sound went mellow with the brass pins which makes a nice sound when 'strumming' behind vocals. With 8 brass pins it must make quite a change to the weight on the sound-board. I have a love-hate relationship with brass pins. For a while I thought they were brilliant on some of my guitars. Then I replaced them and changed my mind. Then I changed some of them back! They just add another imponderable when moving from one guitar to another, changing string gauges, pins, plectrum, etc.

I'm generally a fan of brass bridge pins for "bite". But I have not tried them on a Gazuki and I don't plan on playing a Gazuki the left hand stretches are too tricky even though I do play a bass guitar (short scale) tuned an octave down from a gazuki
