The Acoustic Icons series at Kirkby Fleetham Village Hall

This series of concerts has been put together to bring the finest acoustic & roots music from the UK and beyond to rural North Yorkshire. Four concerts are planned in this series for 2011, with 3 confirmed to date:

Tickets for all events available from KFFC website

Friday 14th January at 7.30pm:
Phil Beer + Brother Crow £10. Licensed Bar.

Phil Beer is one of the most popular and celebrated ambassadors of Acoustic Roots music and part of the massive "Show of Hands".

He is a dazzling multi-instrumentalists and vocalist playing exciting arrangements of traditional English Tunes & Ballads.

Brother Crow are an acoustic duo from Weardale, in the heart of rural North East England, who perform original narrative songs about the people, places and historical events of their local area and beyond.

"A formidable acoustic duo. The strength of their material suggests they have written songs that may well be with us for a long time to come" - Mike Wilson, Folking.Com

Friday 8th April at 7.30pm:
Martin Carthy + Rebekah Findlay £10. Licensed Bar.

For more than 40 years Martin Carthy has been one of folk music's greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures.

Trailblazing musical partnerships with, amongst others, Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick and his award-winning wife (Norma Waterson) and daughter Eliza Carthy have resulted in more than 40 albums.

Rebekah Findlay is one of North Yorkshire's finest up & coming talents. Described by Mike Harding on Radio 2 as "a brilliant young singer" producing "excellent stuff"

May 20th 7.30pm:
Chris Wood + Wendy Arrowsmith. Licensed Bar

"Chris Wood has developed into an exceptional songwriter …venturing into areas that few artists would dare tackle."
The Guardian ★★★★

"The depth of contempt that Wood summons up is astonishing in its power. This is undoubtedly one of the albums of 2010, regardless of genre."
Americana UK.com ★★★★★

"You will be hard pressed to find another recording that is quite so attuned with public sentiment in these times of mistrust and indignation"
Mike Wilson

"Wendy Arrowsmith has a voice that can stop you in your tracks"
R2 (Rock 'n' Reel) Magazine

"Wendy reveals gorgeously moody and stirring tones.... both Wendy's writing and performance being worthy of wider recognition, and likely to ensure that she becomes a mainstay of the folk scene."
Mike Wilson, Folk Radio UK

Yes, it should be a great night, we're looking forward to it a great deal.

All being well, it should also be the first outing for the new "Picassolin"...

Graeme,
Brother Crow.
