In case anyone on Mudcat knew Wik, I have just received sad news.

Dear all

I am sorry to have tell you that Wik Bohdanowicz died on Monday after some weeks in hospital.

You will probably remember Wik (Vic) as a long-standing regular attendee at the Traditional English Music session in the Horseshoe pub near London Bridge, where he played the serpent, ophicleide and other improbable instruments.

I will pass on any messages you may have for his partner Anya.

Martin Nail

I know Wik also attended Jack-in-the-Green events in London. I am sure he was involved in other musical events in the South of England.
A larger than life character who will be fondly remembered.
Garry

He's best known as J J Harrier's minder, driving the Elf n' Safetea wagon (formerly an ice cream van or an ambulance or possibly both) and being a generally good bloke all round at various sessions and festivals, including the Wareham Wail.

Sad news indeed.

Have only just spotted this thread and realised this is about Ejogelforforiti vandriving, former physics teacher, Wik.

I have very fond memories of Wik singing Breaking Wind Suddenly at the Wareham Wail, and also of when he sang Keith Marsden's Funeral Song and all the extra chairs were piled up around him.

Sympathy and all best wishes to Anya.

Kitty

Given that description, I certainly do remember him. Double bass too, I seem to remember. Sad news indeed.

A great local character.
I remember when he first took up the serpent.
We will not see his like again.
My warmest wishes to Anya.
keith and Mary.

I was trying one of my occasional attempts to find Vic as I knew him via the interweb when I was saddened to find his obituary. I knew him in the 1970s. We were students at Kent(degree) and Keele (PGCE). We lost touch, he moved, I moved. In those days he was very much "into" Sealed Knot, Real Ale and double bass. He also liked cooking "proper food". Of course there were also the motorbikes! He did graduate to larger bikes but his first was a Honda 90 and we had an interesting ride one December from Canterbury to the Midlands.
It does sound as if he carried on doing many interesting things during his lifetime.
Tony
