Well, as far as I can tell, the automatic password sender is broken, and has been broken for several years. I don't know of any of the Mudcat addresses where it works, the dev site or any others. I tested the main address and the dev site just now, and the password sender didn't work on either of them. I and a very few of the volunteers have access to the membership database, and can retrieve passwords for you. Usually, the best thing to do is e-mail me. I am off doing volunteer work most of the day on Sunday and Monday, but I do check in a few times a day.

And please, stop sending those firstborn children when you want a password reset. I've had two firstborns in my family (my son and a stepson). Believe me, two are more than enough.

I keep forgetting to type up something formal, but I think we need it because this problem has been with us quite some time. Our registration page is not working, but it works just fine on our "dev" (development) Website. The trouble is, the "dev" site does not have a membership link. So, here goes:

I have just looked on my page, and yes the email listed there is correct. It is the only one I have ever used (and the only one I even have), and I've received Mudcat correspondence on it before. I also tried four separate times to get a password sent to me, and am only here in my membership garb now because I happened to remember what the word was.

The only message I got saying it had been mailed to me was the web page that appeared after I clicked, which was the same one but with that text on it. It looks like an automatic bot-response.

VT mentions that some others have had trouble with this too - ??

Caitlin: It would be interesting to know why you got a message saying your password had been emailed to you, but you didn't receive it.

Now that you are logged in, please go to your membership page (http://mudcat.org/member/EntryForm.cfm) and check whether the email address there is correct.

And it would be a good idea for everybody else to do that too, especially if you might have changed your email address since you joined Mudcat.

I was more interested in the idea of getting rid of my first-born (and other-born), even if it cost me a few exotic potions; but Joe got a look at 'em and sent 'em back. And that was quite a while back when I could stretch a point and say they were young and cute.

Thanks for the speedy replies. I didn't change my email address - it's the one I used when I joined because it's the only one I have.

Going to try the mirror site next and see if that works. (Mind you, I rather like the idea of annointing oils & balms... could do with some of those right now...)

I think I read somewhere that peeps were having trouble getting password resets on this site but were able to on the development site (the one Max is working on).

It all else fails contact [e-mail] from your email account and explain what has happened. He will send you a reset directly.

Under normal mudcat policy/procedure the password can only be sent to the addy you gave when you signed up, so if you've changed your email address you'll need to send an email to Joe Offer with an explanation and a current address for the replies necessary to sorting out the problem.

Be sure to put "mudcat" in the subject line so Joe doesn't think it's one of those chain letters his grril friends send him. He claims he gets too many of those to offer any assurance that he'll answer promptly if it's not obvious that it's a 'cat problem.

Include (in the message) your mudcat name and, if you remember, the original email address(es) you've used here, along with your current one. (Don't forget to say which is which.)

He'll reply with a list of anointing oils and balms you need to apply to your first born before signing him/her over, shipping details, and with whatever other demands and ransoms must be met for you to get back on.

I'd post his email addy, but might misquote it. Look in the FAQ at the "Quick Links" box up at the top of the page and you should find it easily, if someone with a better memory doesn't come along soon.

Sorry to bother everybody with this, but I don't know what else to do. (I'd put it in BS but aren't guests not allowed to start threads there?) I tried to log in but forgot my password. So I typed in the only email I have, to get a reminder. But nothing. I did this 3 more times. Still nothing, though each time I get the page saying Your Password Has Been Emailed To You.

But it hasn't! It's not in the spam bin either. (Was it something I said...?) I know my email account works because I've just been sending & receiving other things on it. Can someclone please send me my password? Once I have it, feel free to delete this scintillating thread. Thanks so much -
