Subject: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 11 From: SylviaN Date: 09 Jan 11 - 11:15 AM As some of you know, Russ Barenberg is the magical, Grammy nominated guitarist and mandolin player who is part of the Transatlantic Sessions. He is touring the UK with the TS in late January/early February 2011. We were thrilled when he agreed to perform for us and his appearance at Old Oak "Live" will be his only UK solo performance in 2011. This does mean we had to change the day of the concerts to a Thursday and the concert will start slightly earlier (7.30 p.m.). Just to give you an idea of what others think of him: "Wow" – Barry Coope (CBS) - that's almost speechless for Barry. "One of my heroes" – John Adams (Old Swan Band) If you would like to come, the tickets are: £18.00 – Concessions: £15.00 Contact: 01335 35675, 07885 345367 or keith@keithkendrick.com Cheers Sylvia |

Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 11 From: Will Fly Date: 09 Jan 11 - 06:22 PM Thanks SylviaN - I have friends who live not a million miles from Derbyshire - I might well make the journey. |

Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 11 From: SylviaN Date: 14 Jan 11 - 04:58 PM We'll be travelling up to see The Transatlantic Sessions at the Sage on the 2nd February and then bring Russ down to Derbyshire on the 3rd. We've had a few e-mail exchanges with him and we're looking forward to meeting him in person. |

Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 2011 From: Rob Naylor Date: 19 Jan 11 - 09:14 PM Oh, wow! I'm going to Transatlantic Live in London on 31st, but may well make the pilgrimage to Derbyshire to see him, if I can wangle 2 half days off from work. I've been struggling with the guitar solo bits of "Drummers of England" for a while now (got the rest of it down OK) and just love seeing Russ' guitar work on my TA DVDs. Thanks for posting this. |
Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 2011 From: SylviaN Date: 20 Jan 11 - 08:31 AM Hope you can make it to Derbyshire, Rob. We're quite relaxed now at the border control - they tend just to wave people through. :) |
Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 2011 From: Backwoodsman Date: 20 Jan 11 - 09:12 AM Saw him last year playing in TTSL at the Birmingham Symphony Hall, and will be seeing him/them there again on 30/1/11. A Star amongst Stars, brilliant. Can't make the pilgrimage to Belper - I'll be too tired after a gig the previous night. 'Ave a good 'un - you definitely will! |
Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 2011 From: Rob Naylor Date: 20 Jan 11 - 05:20 PM Thanks Sylvia....I spend a fair bit of my time climbing in Derbyshire (and adjacent pieces of Yorkshire) when my ankle's behaving itself, so I know the secret ways in anyway :-) |
Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 2011 From: SylviaN Date: 29 Jan 11 - 07:50 PM Not long to wait now. Rob has his route planned into Derbyshire from London (not sure what mountain pass he is going to use :))and others are making the trip from Lincoln and Gloucester. Really sorry for those of you who can't make it, but, given the demand, we've re-arranged the room and managed to squeeze in a few extra seats (keeping within the fire regulations)so I have 6 more tickets. It will, of course, be first come served. I won't be able to access Mudcat either on the 2nd or 3rd, so e-mail me on sylvia@sylvianeedham.co.uk. I can pick up messages on my phone. Cheers Sylvia |
Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 2011 From: SylviaN Date: 04 Feb 11 - 07:49 AM What a wonderful night we had last night. Such wonderful arrangement and sensitive guitar playing. Russ was also entertaining with his stories and intros. We hope to get him back sometime in the future, perhaps alone, perhaps with someone else. He's going to let us know as soon as he has another trip planned. We also want to arrange for him to do one of his workshops. If you are interested, let me know and I'll put you on the list so that you get to know early, as places will be limited. Cheers Sylvia |
Subject: RE: Russ Barenberg, Old Oak Live, 3 Feb 2011 From: Rob Naylor Date: 04 Feb 11 - 08:01 AM Copied over from the other thread I started: QUOTE Well, what can I say? Was it worth a 372 mile round-trip drive? YES. To go from seeing him as a fully integrated part of the Transatlantic Sessions playing to a crowd of 2,500 at the Festival Hall on Monday to sitting within touching distance of the headstock of his guitar for his solo gig in the back room of a pub seating 55 last night was a big change (thanks for the front-row seats, Sylvia, much appreciated!). Loved it. And to cap it all, he's a really nice guy, very down to earth and great to chat to. Just an amazing evening. My friend Sarah who came up from Stoke-on-Trent (a "mere" hour away) was also blown away. Thanks for organising this, Sylvia and co. UNQUOTE |
