Subject: RE: Lancashire Radio Programme 'Sithee' From: johnadams Date: 13 Jan 11 - 07:28 PM Sorry about that. I've not taken them down. My account with box.net has lapsed and the system seems unwilling to accept my new card details. Hopefully it won't take me long to sort it and the files will be available again. If you're finding the programmes interesting I'll upload some more. They're not all folk music based - there's one with brass band music and one with little music at all. I'm still dipping into the files to see what's there. |

Subject: RE: Lancashire Radio Programme 'Sithee' From: Ross Campbell Date: 11 Jan 11 - 02:10 PM Some very interesting material there, John. I was introduced to "Owdham Edge" and "Deep Lancashire" around 1972, my first year here in Lancashire. Used to hear more of this kind of material thru the seventies, much harder to find now (or maybe I'm not getting out enough!) I'm guessing the programmes are from then - any dates to the recordings? Can't recall hearing any local folk programmes till much later - BBC Radio Blackburn/Lancashire programme "The Drift" is the latest version of a series that has run for perhaps more than twenty years. I look forward to hearing more - thanks for posting. Ross |
Subject: RE: Lancashire Radio Programme 'Sithee' From: johnadams Date: 11 Jan 11 - 06:11 AM Here's another programme in the 'Sithee' series. This programme is about wakes and holidays and starts off with (I think) Harry Boardman. Still hoping for some info on the programme series if anyone remembers it. 'Sithee' Wakes programme |
Subject: Lancashire Radio Programme 'Sithee' From: johnadams Date: 10 Jan 11 - 11:24 AM Having fired up the Paul Graney Collection server to find a recording for another thread, I spent an idle hour browsing the audio files. There is a suite of radio programme recordings labelled 'Sithee' with various subjects covered, all about Lancashire. I've put an example of one of them, temporarily, on my download site and you can have a listen or download it by clicking on the link below. It features Mike Harding talking about how Lancashire songs are typecast as being 'daft' with few references to the serious songs from the region. Does anyone remember this series of programmes and what radio station they were broadcast by? 'Sithee' with Mike Harding |
