Tony and I were having a bit of a sing lately and were talking about our Visit to the Fair Parish of Portsmouth ; and of course the Press Room.We have great memories of th trip.I am probably too late but have a great night......... Good Wiises to you all.

Tom has started quietly singing along (without his sound system) if the song is in his key. The problem is, he's still finding out what his keys are, what notes come easier and which need to be worked on, and what notes might not be there at all with the new vocal equipment.

Not so much the kitchen staff as the waitresses who occasionally sort of joined in. Rita is Rita Pomerleau, a regular listener at the Friday session who has been joining in a few times with a song. I think this may have been her first time singing at a shanty session. Also Ernie Pigeon from Newburyport and Mike Modern from Portsmouth.

Don't have time to start the song list right now -- work rears its ugly by necessary head. (Gainful employment is good.)

While laying out my calendar for 2011 I noted that I'll be missing the March sea music singaround because of work -- smack in the middle of our expo/trunk show weekend. I'll miss the Friday session, too, as well as being knackered thanks to Thursday being St. Patrick's Day. Have to swap hours on Thursday so I can put in an appearance at all and, because of the trunk show, for the first time in 30 years can not only not take off the day following, but I can't come in late, either. Sigh.

Well, if you missed this evening at the Press Room, you really missed a fine evening of singing. About 20 singers were there, and everyone had a chance to lead three or more songs. Nor and Eli, Judy and I, were the Maine contingent. The Gloucester gang (Peter, Joanne, Rose and I'm blanking on the 4th member) was there in force, Jeri, Mark, Chris, Justine, Marty, Jeff came in late, Tom and Linn, and two new folks from Newburyport, and one or two others.

Judy took careful notes on what songs were sung and who led them but I think I'll do that post tomorrow. It was a fine evening.

That's good news on several levels.

I'm working up a new C. Fox Smith poem for singing but it's not exactly a sea song. The sea was there but the soldiers had a job to do on land and the job had gone very bad.

Weather report looks decent enough for Saturday. Maybe a little light snow in the later evening. But nothing to scare away the true stalwarts lusting to lead or listen to nautical songs.

Weather Underground has 20" in Deerfield
14" in Portsmouth, 15" in Derry, 14" in Somersworth, and 11" in N. Northwood (Stafford Co.). I got around 10" to a foot, I believe. Hard to say, as a lot of it seemed to want to stay airborne. If I got more than I was supposed to get, who do I call to give it back?

The monthly shanty/forebitter/ballad session will be held at the Press Room in Portsmouth NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM, by which time the streets should be passable and parkable.

Although I can barely eke out an octave, I have neither tone nor volume and so will depend on others to sing for me. Looking for both those from the north and the south.
