Around Christmas of 2009, Joe Offer declared the Robert Earl Keen, Jr. song "Merry Christmas from the Family" to be Mudcat's Official Christmas Song.

May I suggest that his "The Five Pound Bass" would make a great Mudcat's Official Fish Song?

Here's a couple of relatively fresh ones:

"Haul Away the Nets" by Vince Morash, Nova Scotia

"The Spectral Fishing Fleet" by myself as tribute to Fleetwood's derelict fishing fleet: Click here for MP3 and lyrics

Cheerily,

He's a cad; he's a ham;
His last name's Amsterdam -
That's a Morey.

He stole bases for thrills,
And his last name is Wills -
That's a Maury.

Guest, Julia,

I always sang that song as:

"When an eel bites your thigh,
And you think you will die,
That's a moray."

As a young child, one of my favorites was the lullaby "Yo Ho Little Fishy."

There's a wee little fishy that I love the best.
And it's time for that fishy to lay down and rest.

Yo Ho little fishy, don't cry, don't cry.
For you'll be a big fishy by and by.

You will go to a school and learn from a book,
How not to get caught on the fisherman's hook.

Yo Ho little fishy...

You will learn to swim right past the fisherman's bait.
So as not to end up on the fisherman's plate.

Yo Ho little fishy...

It would be best to lowercase the F in the subject line. As it is, I suspected a reference to Leslie Fish, tho I wasn't betting on it.
