Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 14 Jan 11 - 06:34 PM In The Linux version (I have 3.6.x) of Firefox there is no 'Tools-Options'. Try 'Edit - Preferences'. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: GUEST,Jon Date: 14 Jan 11 - 02:40 PM In firefox it can be set using tools then options. Firefox varies. I think the Windows version still works that way but Linux and (I would think) OS/X versions are edit/preference. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jan 11 - 01:39 PM It's usually in one of the pages as you're installing, and the boxes are already toggled. You not only have to untoggle all of them, you have to do it in the right order so nothing thinks it is entitled to be loaded. SRS |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Bill D Date: 14 Jan 11 - 01:33 PM WinPatrol is excellent as a guard at the door! When reviewing programs at the place I find most of mine, it is quite common to be warned to WATCH for the request to install the Ask toolbar, and to deny the request. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Stilly River Sage Date: 14 Jan 11 - 01:28 PM There are several programs I have come across lately that want to bundle toolbars and change home pages. Ask is one of the most annoying, right up there behind Yahoo. IF you open your Tools menu while you're on the page or pages (in other tabs) you want to open when you first start the browser, then you can go to the Options bar and see what is now listed as your home page. By choosing the "use current" option (again, if you already have the page(s) open that you want) that removes the Ask page. But I would also uninstall the toolbar through the Control Panel. I've installed new burning drives, an new router, and software that all wanted to bring along baggage. One can only presume that Ask pays them money to add this annoying bit of trash. If you use a program like WinPatrol, it comes up and asks you if you want this program to have access, and you can block it that way, and you can open WinPatrol later and check to see what is in your initial launch list. Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Kevin Sheils Date: 14 Jan 11 - 01:01 PM In firefox it can be set using tools then options. Choose the general tab and you can then set a home page and tell firefox whether to open with the home page or a blank page or the tabs that were open last time you closed. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: open mike Date: 14 Jan 11 - 12:49 PM yes i can have lots oftabs in firefox too butthe:little house: does not have a drop down menu the home page seems to have been automatically changed to "ASK" from the firefox icon on the desk top... so when i tell the computer to go to the browser it always opens to "ask" if i want to i can circumvent this by going to a link but it pisses me off that the ask program seems to have decided to become my home page, as well as apparently deleting my options to make a choice in the matter.. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Bill D Date: 14 Jan 11 - 12:29 PM greedy? Nawww... in my Opera browsers,(5 versions, I think) I have between 8 and 15 tabs going. Every now & then I convert some to just 'bookmarks', but tabs, along with careful use of the 'session saver' let me check my regular sites quickly. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: GUEST,Jon Date: 14 Jan 11 - 12:16 PM Depends on the browser. On this linux box currently I have. FireFox and Epiphany: Edit/Preferences. Home page is in general tab. Konquerer. Tools/Configure Konquerer/Choose General from left hand list. Chrome. Click spanner icon at top right/options/homepage is in basics tab. Opera: Click menu button at top left/settings/preferences. Home page is in general tab. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Bernard Date: 14 Jan 11 - 12:10 PM That's just greedy, Bill! |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Bill D Date: 14 Jan 11 - 12:05 PM In Firefox, 'tools'-> 'options'-> 'general' but... If you use tabs, having a 'homepage' becomes almost an anachronism. You can have several tabs open and simply click on the one you want. I have 11 open right now...including Mudcat. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: Bernard Date: 14 Jan 11 - 12:02 PM The 'little house' has a little down-arrow to the right of it - there is an option 'Add or change Home Page'. As far as the 'Ask' toolbar is concerned, click on 'Tools' then 'Toolbars' and deselect any you don't want. |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: JohnInKansas Date: 14 Jan 11 - 11:54 AM In IE, click "Tools." It should open with the "General" tab selected. The top section is "Home Page." With Mudcat open, click the button that says "Use Current." Other browsers should be similar. John |
Subject: RE: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: pdq Date: 14 Jan 11 - 11:35 AM You should be able to go to you browser's "preferences" and the click on a page called "general" or some such name, and you will be offered a choice of default brower, opening page and home. If you are on Mudcat, click on "set to current page" and yer done. |
Subject: Tech: how to change home page on browser From: open mike Date: 14 Jan 11 - 11:12 AM I seem to have a search engine called "ask" which has insinuated itself as my home page..I had mudcat at my home page and hope to change it back again, but the program seems to have not only chosen itself to be the first to open, but made the link where you choose your home page go only the itself...selfish little pig! (i suspect this is a result of downloading the current version of paltalk..as much a i have liked paltalk all these years, this does not endear them to me now..) does anyone know of other ways to change your home page...there should be some drop down menu in preferences or something??!! the little house icon does not give an option to make any changes as far as i can tell...meanwhile instead of opening my browser by clicking on the fire fox icon, if i choose a blickie link (from an e-mail message, for instance) i can open another page besides "ask" I do believe i was able to remove the "task bar" that it established with no choice from me....how many task bars can one person have? sometimes itseems as if they take up 1/2 of the screen!! |
