Indeed, a great time was had by all.
For future reference, Ddolwen Farm no longer does camping.

Thanks for the campsite tips ; your Ddolwen Farm sounds good, Ned ; I fancy that !! Got a 'phone number you could let me have, here or on Facebook ??
Nigel ;thanks for the gen on RNAS Brawdy ( HMS Goldcrest) ; when I was there (1966) it was the main base for the Gannets of No.849 Naval Air Squadron, as well as providing advanced flying training using Hunter GA9, GA11, and possibly T8C ( which I am "qualified to maintain" as well as Vampires and Sea Vixens !!).I was there with the "Bluejacket " band from RNAS Yeovilton (HMS Heron) ; we combined with the Brawdy band & that of RNAS Culdrose (HMS Seahawk) to do "Beat Retreat" on Brawdy "Air Day" ; had a great week, and blagged loads of drinks off US tourists whilst giving concerts in a hotel in St Davids !!

There's also the Seamen's Pub down in the lower harbour. I'm sure they've got a bedroom somewhere. But watch out as you go out the front door. You might easily get picked off by a car or lorry that didn't quite make the curve.

We had a splendid stay in Fishguard a few years back. Joined a session at the Royal Oak and launched a few sea songs. I doubt if the room is as smokey as it was back then but it was still fun, and folks were very friendly.

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Hi Bubblyrat.
There's Gwaun Vale campsite (SA65 9TA ) about a mile up the valley from the town centre. However, just before there, on the left is Ddolwen Farm where I stayed for a few nights last summer. It's a much more basic site, but it has hookups and showers (although somewhat old fashioned).

Bubblyrat;
From Wiki:

The base was home to Hawker Hunter aircraft of the TWU, and the gate guardian at the base was initially a Supermarine Spitfire, this was replaced in the early 80s by Hawker Hunter FGA.9 (XE624). This airframe was subsequently sold to a private collector[1], Steve Petch, who is in the process of creating a website for the aircraft[2].

By the late 80's it operated BAe Hawk T.1A (234 and 79 Squadron) and Sea King (202 Squadron, B Flight) aircraft. The RAF withdrew in 1992 and the base, now known as Cawdor Barracks, is currently occupied by the Royal Signals, being the main electronic warfare base of the British Army.

Very tempted !! In fact, a very nice youg man, whom I met / played with at Sidmouth a few years back, invited me there, but I never made it !! Will Cornelius be there ?? I like accompanying him !
Is there a campsite,as we would be tenting ? God, it would be good to see the airfield at Brawdy again (if it's still there ??).
             Roger ( Ex-Fleet Air Arm ).

Loxley, that's me, Arthur and John, are booked and really looking forward to this festival. We're also gigging in St Davids on the Thursday before and have a Radio Pembs interview the same day. All we need now is some accommodation. Any ideas?
Sal

The previous thread had a longer title, with West Wales" in brackets at the end.
Could some mud-elf possibly oblige?

Cheers

New thread to allow discussions of earlier Fishguard festivals to rest in peace. (if you want the previous thread it's Here

The website is Here

Over the past eleven years the seaport town of Fishguard has been host to one of the UK's best small traditional music festivals. With concerts, dance displays, workshops,
meet the artist events, busking, informal music and song sessions,
the town will be filled with colourful displays of dancing, along with tunes, airs, jigs and reels.
Also featuring the popular guided 'Pirate and Smugglers' walk.
This small, friendly festival is mainly free, and embraces the talents of old and young alike
and actively encourages visitors to join in the sessions with the 'stars' of the show,
everyone is a part of the entertainment - not just a spectator.
Lots of opportunity to 'do your own thing'.
So where better to celebrate our music and song. Welcome to the 12th Fishguard Folk Festival and seven thousand years of history and tradition!
