The Music Institute Club in Guildford, Surrey will be hosting Gavin Davenport at it's next meeting on Friday 21st January 2011.Gavin is a singer, writer and performer of folk music within the English tradition, and has performed for the last fifteen years in various guises with acclaimed projects including Crucible, Hekety, GloryStrokes and The Grinder's Misfortune Society as well as guesting with acts from James Raynard to Taffy Thomas and Bellowhead.

In 2009 he was the winner of the John Birmingham Cup for newly composed unaccompanied song. His own compositions have been performed in sessions and singarounds as well as by other highly regarded singers. He plays guitar, cittern, mandolin and Anglo concertina as well as performing unaccompanied. His repertoire includes a number of traditional ballads, some of which are seldom heard elsewhere.

Saw Gav the other night at a Sheffield concert. he was great as usual. I heard Nancy Kerr say 'awesome' to James Fagan after he had played his anglo and sung. He's just gone pro so should be around the scene. See Hallam Traditions web site for CD
