I've just been watching and listening to the episode of the Transatlantic Sessions currently up on BBC iPlayer. Series 3 Episode 3.

There's a piece at about 20 minutes 40 seconds in, Karen Matheson singing, in Gaelic, so I didn't understand a word of it, but it's just the most beautiful piece of music I've heard in ages. And those pipes! It almost made made me cry.

I'm also totaly in love with the young lady playing the harp!

Sorry possibly UK only.

Yup - a great episode from a terrific series. Tim O'Brien didn't even make the credits - unbelievable.

The best session music they've ever had on British TV. (YOMV)

Tim was superb ob the Transatlantic Sessions Live tour last year, and his sister, Mollie, was even superber (if that's a word). Brilliant musicianship and nice, accessible people post-show.

I bought the 2-DVD set of the series shortly after it was shown on UK TV - still marvellous, and I can thoroughly recommend its purchase.

Anyone going to the Transatlantic Live tour this year? We're off to the Bridgewater Hall next week. I've been a fan of Jerry Douglas since the early 80s and never yet seen him live.

Yep, I'll be at the Manchester gig too, front row centre tickets, woo hoo! Looking forward to seeing (and hearing) many old favourites including Jerry, Tim O'Brien and Russ Barenberg and to seeing some musicians that I haven't heard live before, including Dirk Powell and Allison Moorer. Should be a feast of musical excellence!

Mrs. Fenswoman and I will be at the Birmingham Symphony Hall gig on Sunday 30/1/11. If it's as good as last year, it'll be a cracker!

The harp player who wrote the Swan tune (in F)?

I think Tim o'Brien made the creits when I last looked.

Perhaps they edited him out - one never knows.

I bought a BB King album many years ago which had Caledonia on it. It appears on another album with something like the words - 'one of the soloists wanted his solo removed so we did' (it was probably phrased a bit differently) - interesting cut which is quite noticeable

Keith and I (together with Frances and Roger Warren - some of you may remember Roger from the Derbyshire group "Saga" in the late 60s / early 70s) are going up to see the show at the Sage on the 2nd.

We'll then be bringing Russ Barenberg back to Derbyshire to do his only solo UK gig this year at Roger's pub in Horsley Woodhouse on the 3rd before he flys home.
