I'm not familiar with Ubuntu and printers but I assume Ubuntu has CUPs with the web interface. What do the printer page and job page show on

http://localhost:631/

I doubt if I can help but what is your printer and Ubuntu version?

I've only had one occasion where prints disappeared into a black hole. That only affected colour prints on my Epson. It turned out to be a bug in ghostscript 8.64 which caused problems for lots of different printer makes and models. Changing to Ghostscript 8.70 fixed it.

When I try and print pn our printer, the font is so small, it is impossible to read without a magnifying glass. Can this be changed?

I had a problem with my HP printer. It kept eating paper and generally doing a half ass job so I gave it a "Factory authorized thump: and that did it.
It now resides in the recycle bin in a rather smashed condition.
The new Kodak works well.

More and more of the inkjets I have been seeing are real crap. Among other things, Lady Hillary and I work the computer section of our regional rummage sale--first weekend in May for those near us--we reject more printers than we accept. Either they are in garbage shape or they are so old that it is not worth the effort to check them out.

I work with 3 Hp PRINTERS CS9650......1700....and a new large format B8850......I find that hp help center will walk you through any problem.....People can tell you different but I have had good success with them....Go to their web page...have your serial number ready (make sure you registered the printer with them) click on for a live tech support person and see what happens/////Frank of Toledo

I have XP, not Linux, but I had the same problem as the Cap'n. It turned out to be that I had removed freeware and removed a couple of shared files with it, including one vital to the USB ports.

My solution was drastic in the end, so I won't suggest you follow it.
