Subject: RE: Lyr Req: How Many Biscuits Can You Eat? From: KickyC Date: 06 Sep 99 - 09:01 AM Sorry about that. I pushed the wrong button. Anyway, I am looking for the lyrics to a song I heard this weekend at a festival in Avoca, IA. The tune is the same as the "Crawdad Hole", but the words start out, "How many biscuits can you eat... 49 and a pound of meat..." does anyone know these. I will be performing for a group of 2-3 graders on Thursday, and this would be a fun song for them to learn. Thanks, Chris |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: How Many Biscuits Can You Eat? From: Art Thieme Date: 08 Sep 99 - 09:30 AM How very many songs have this same tune... a Georgia Sea Island version of "Tell Old Bill" "The Crawdad Song" "Mama Don't Allow No Singin' Round Here" some versions of "Frog Went a-Courting" Woody Guthrie and the Almanac Singers song "Pittsburg Town Is A Smoky Old Town" (I used to do 'em all in a sing along medley for young kids & in school shows to show 'em what the oral tradition process was all about---how it worked on altering the songs. As the last song in the medley I'd tell 'em we were going to create our own folksong right here and now. I'd take lines from each of the previously sung songs and it would come out as:
Tell old bill when he gets home, this morning, It always was fun to do.) Art Thieme |
Subject: Lyr Add: HOW MANY BISCUITS CAN YOU EAT?^^ From: Arkie Date: 08 Sep 99 - 09:31 PM The following words are taken from Scott Wiseman's arrangement. Have another version on a Stringbean recording which I will try to capture tomorrow. Alternate words which are used in some versions were put in ()
How Many Biscuits Can You Eat
How many biscuits can you eat this morning
Make my coffee good and strong this morning,
Ain't no use of me working so hard this morning,
Killed a chicken and she saved me the wing this morning,
Love my wife and I love my babe this morning,

Subject: Lyr Add: HOW MANY BISCUITS CAN YOU EAT? From: Arkie Date: 09 Sep 99 - 11:00 AM Here are the words from the Stringbean recording. There may be a double meaning in some of the versions. This one is pretty much about biscuits.
How many biscuits can you eat, this mornin', This first verse becomes the chorus to be sung after the remaining verses.
When you see me looking straight, this mornin',
Wake up Sal, you slept too late, this mornin', HTML line breaks corrected. (Changed "bk" to "br".) --JoeClone, 5-Apr-03. |
