I just posted this link to the "What makes a great songwriter?" thread, but since it's not just about songwriting, but songs in general, I thought it deserves its own notice:

What's in a song?" is a series co-produced by National Public Radio and the Western Folklife Center. It features short interviews (~4 mins) with singers and songwriters about songs. Among the interviewees are Ian Tyson (on writing "Four Strong Winds"), Elizabeth LaPrelle (on the power and simplicity of "Black is the Color"), a Virginia preacher on the feeling the spirit in leading "Beulah Land"... etc.

Worth browsing.
