Wednesday 16th February 2010

"A live performer with a world class voice, Christine Bovill has built her reputation on her interpretation of classic 20th century songs. With the release of Derby Street, her first album, Christine reveals a major talent as a songwriter.

Born in Glasgow to a family of musicians, the soundtrack to Christine's early life was Dylan, Cohen, The Everly Brothers and The Beatles. However, a chance discovery of some old jazz vinyl would shape Christine's later career in cabaret.
A residency at one of Glasgow's renowned jazz venues - The Inn On The Green - would see her "..captivate audiences with her tender take on these haunting songs ... with the technical skills of a jazz singer and the passion of a torch singer, she never puts a foot wrong!"

She would go on to write two hugely successful shows based on the life and work of Billie Holiday and Edith Piaf.

In the last six years, Christine has devoted herself to writing her own material, building an enthusiastic following as a singer songwriter. Working with a variety of musicians and writers, Christine has also collaborated on theatrical projects, most recently with writer/performer Iain Heggie, for whom she produced the music for his upcoming show Love Songs For A Timewaster, which will tour Britain and America in early 2011.

From the wistful joy of Where You Found Me, and the fatalistic tango of Shadows, to the anthemic Lighthouse keeper, Derby Street is an eclectic mix of songs; vibrant, original and, in one critic's words,"an immediacy and depth that draws you in ... her songs will break your heart and make you fall in love?"

"Writing songs allowed me to find a new voice. When I write, I find inspiration everywhere- so often in the least suspecting places. In never-quiet fragments of conversations within me and around me..."
Dividing her time between London and Glasgow Christine regularly performs live throughout the UK.

From what's on her website, looks like it would be great to watch with the sound off.
