Subject: RE: Lyr Req: scotland is the place for me From: Jim Dixon Date: 17 Feb 11 - 01:20 PM I had another listen, and now I think "Wafting frae Kirkaldy" and "Ruined veg" are probably correct. By the way, I also noticed that it's "homemade booze" not "homemade brews" (but either would work, I suppose). |

Subject: Lyr Add: SCOTLAND IS THE PLACE FOR ME (R Browne) From: Jim Dixon Date: 11 Feb 11 - 08:06 AM Here's my transcription from the recording at YouTube. SCOTLAND IS THE PLACE FOR ME Ronnie Browne (Tune: COULTER'S CANDY) CHORUS: Ally-bally, ally-bally bee, Scotland is the place for me. Even though it's awfy wee, I think it's fine and dandy. 1. Land o' kilts an' tasty stews, Haggises an' homemade brews, Men trussed up in tartan trews To stop them going bandy. 2. Silver locks and heather bells Land o' Burns and "gaun yersels", Beach resorts wi' filthy smells Waft an' fakir cawdie. (?) 3. Homemade scones an' currant-bun, Rue an' veg' an' steak well done, Greasy pies that weigh a ton, That's the taste o' Scotland. 4. Scottish girls are seldom coy. They've all learned to jump for joy. Ask 'em what's their fav'rite toy, Then run before they tell ye. 5. Scottish men are made of steel, Impudence and sex appeal. Never ask us how we feel, Just in case we show ye. - - - From Ronnie Browne's CD "The First Time." I have no idea what verse 2 line 4 means (let alone the correct spelling) and would appreciate an explanation. Also, does "Rue" in verse 3 really refer to the this herb? Do people really eat that stuff? |
