Anybody know how to find out about folk events in Munich? Google isn't telling me much.

Preferably German/Bavarian stuff, I'm not interested in Irish sessions.

I can read German a bit, so German links are fine.

No ideas yet?

From the amount of activity I've found elsewhere in Bavaria relating to traditional instruments like brass, steierische harmonika, ocarina and hackbrett, there ought to be SOMETHING going on in the big city, surely?

It might be worth contacting the Irish Folk Music Club at:

http://www.irishfolkclubmunich.com

not because of any interest in Irish music but because they may well have a reasonable knowledge - being long-standing residents - of what local German folk music is around the place.

Just a thought. Google, as you say, is not very helpful here.

and finally something with dates....

Have a nice trip

Ernest

If I were going to Munich (Muenchen in German) I would visit this site:

http://www.muenchen.de/

There's a link at the bottom called Kontakt. I would kontakt them for info on Volksmusik.

Worth a try, anyway.

The world is A LOT BIGGER bugger...since 'google' took over from deja-news, ask jeaves, etc.

My preference for the google search engines...is to make the request country specific.

i.e. - you would like information from a "German" city-state.

Place .de in back of "google" where your most usual .com appears.

Just like "mudcat" ... "google" reads your geographic location and "anticipates" your needs. (just Ask Jeeves)

While "spoofing" geographic locations is ok.....it is far, far, easier to place the CK, or, CH, or DE....into your current browser.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Pat Cooksey runs a club in Nurnberg (or did the last time I was in contact with him) so he might have some info. Check his web page www.patcooksy.com

Great advice, Gargoyle! Just to see how it works, I went to Google and changed the URL from google.com to Google.de

Then I searched for "Volksmusik Muenchen" and got a whole page of events. Very nice!

At first I was disappointed because all the events seem to be scheduled for next fall, but then I remembered that the day of the month comes first over there, so that 11.02.2011 is the eleventh of February, not the second of November.

I bet there's some great yodeling going on somewhere there.
