Attention all you Pacific Northwesterners!
and anyone else who can make it to Seattle

Brian Peters will be in town this weekend
to do a concert with the Seattle Folklore Society.
two workshops, and take part in a "hoot"

Saturday, Feb. 12th, 2011, 7:30 pm
Seattle Folklore Society presents
BRIAN PETERS
Brian Peters is a performer of traditional English folk music, a multi-instrumentalist with a great voice and an energetic stage presence. One of the UK’s best anglo-concertina players and a fine guitarist, he is recognized internationally as a leading singer of traditional ballads. Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Avenue N, Seattle. $15, $2 off for SFS & PNA members and seniors, kids half price. Info/reservations: 206-528-8523, seafolklore.org, or phinneycenter.org.

Also two workshops at Dusty Strings

Saturday, Feb. 12, 10:30am-12:30pm
DADGAD Guitar in Traditional Celtic Style
WORKSHOP - BRIAN PETERS
Learn chord shapes, how to choose chords, and how to play in keys other than the basic D. Try plectrum styles for backing tunes, including the tricky 6/8 (jig) time, and fingerpicked song accompaniments, with ideas for instrumental breaks. Dusty Strings. 10:30-12:30pm, $35. Info/reservations: 634-1662

Saturday, Feb. 12, 1:30-3:30pm
ANGLO CONCERTINA, ENGLISH STYLE
WORKSHOP - BRIAN PETERS
Learn this style from one of its leading masters and use it to play driving dance music, with hints for song accompaniment. Brian will teach on an instrument in C/G, and although G/D players can be accommodated, it would be helpful to bring a C/G anglo to class. G/D button accordion players welcome too. Dusty Strings. 1:30-3:30pm, $35. Info/reservations: 634-1662

Also on Friday, Feb. 11th

Friday, Feb. 11th, 2011, 7:30-9:30 pm
Pacific Northwest Folklore Society Coffeehouse Concert
BRITISH ISLES TRADITIONAL MUSIC NIGHT
Explore the musical traditions of the British Isles (England, Ireland, Scotland) with a panel of musicians sharing their songs and tunes in a round-robin format. With Felicia Dale, Mike Freeman, Tania Opland, David Perasso, Brian Peters, William Pint, Chris Roe, and others. Free, donations welcome. 7:30-9:30 pm, Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Cafe 8310 Greenwood Ave N, Seattle, 436-2960.

For Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson and Clallam county 'catters:
Brian's concert on Sunday on Bainbridge Island is at the Island Music Center at Valley Road and Sunrise Drive. Coming South from the Agate Pass Bridge, turn left at Day Rd and go all the way to the T intersection on Sunrise. Turn right and then a couple of miles later turn left on Valley and IMC will be on your immediate left, right behind Rolling Bay Auto, across from the Presbyterian Church.
Coming north from the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal, turn right at Manitou Beach Road after 2 miles on State 305 which leaves the terminal. Bear left at Madison - the first turn available, then right at the stop sign at Valley, cross Sunrise and it's on the left.
See you there. :) Carter Bannerman

We just saw him off to Bainbridge Island
on the ferry dock in Seattle.

Friday night's "hoot" at the Couth Buzzard in Seattle
was a lot of fun with Brian and seven other musicians.
And the Saturday Seattle Folklore Society Concert
was great - a good audience, nice songs and tunes,
interspersed with some good English humour.
He'll spend a few days on Bainbridge then
down to California for the rest of his tour.

Thanks Brian, we enjoyed having you this weekend.

Cheers, S. in Seattle

I got this early this morning from an old friend of decades of the ferry commute, and pass it along for the edification of the unsuspecting Californians who have yet to hear good Dr Peteers:

Thank you so much for helping to bring Brian Peters to sing and play for us! My God, he is so good! He's got one of those clear beautiful voices that just cuts right into your heart. I am still reeling from the thrill. I bought one of his CDs, I need to buy more! More more more! Please do what you can to convince him that he must return to us as soon as possible.   WOW!

As unsolicited testimonials go, I'd have to that and A+.
