Grishka

Sorry just read it again and now understand why it may be confusing!

Should have put, I believe "The Last Post" found it's origins in this.(Referring to a well known bugle call not your actual last post in the thread)

Contrary to this belief, Wikipedia states:

Il Silenzio (Silence in English) is an Italian pop music instrumental piece, with a small part of spoken Italian lyrics, notable for its trumpet theme. It was written in 1965 by trumpet player Nini Rosso and Guglielmo Brezza[1], its thematic melody being an extension of the bugle military call for taps. It has become a worldwide instrumental standard, which has sold around 10 million copies.[2] It was a number one hit in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Italy and in Switzerland in 1965. [3] It reached the position of Number 1 in Australia on 01/09/65 and stayed in the charts for 19 weeks. In the United States it reached #32 in the Billboard Easy Listening Charts.

So I stand corrected.

Apologies for the previous confusion

CC

Commander, I don't quite understand what you mean. But I watched the clip you linked to and I agree with those who commented there at YouTube about the girl not playing "live". She may have played the recording, however.

Here is the version with the lyrics quoted in the link given by RunrigFan (11 Feb 11 - 11:34 PM), uploaded to mark the death of a popular actor.

More about the song at Wikipedia.

I believe the last post found it's origins in this. However I may be mistaken but I'm sure someone who knows whether it did or not will pop along soon.

Il silenzio = (the) silence.

Come una voce che ormai conosco già,
Questo silenzio di te mi parlerà.

I think that means: Like a voice that I know so well by now, this silence will speak to me about you.

Many thanks for those lyrics, interesting..... still sort of works well as a piece played for my Mum's funeral.

Regards

Linda

My love you go away
it's so sad and you know that
What useless days
I will live by thinking of you
I'll give my life to have you always
close to me
Like a voice that by now
I know already,
this silence will speak to you of me
nothing could change
even if I must wait

Like a voice that by now
I know alrteady
this silence will speak to you of me
My love, you go away ,
but you'll return again
Good night my love
I'll see you in my dreams
Good night to you
who are distant

I'm not sure if that is the right translation, but from yahoo answers

Google translate vversion

Love you go
And so sad and you know it
What a useless days
I will live with you in mind.
I would give my life to have you
Still here beside me
Like a voice
I already know that by now,
This silence
You speak to me,
Nothing could change
Although I have to wait.

Like a voice that I know well already,
This silence you speak to me.
Love you go, but come back to
Good night love
I'll see you in my dreams
Good night to you that you're away

Does anyone know the English translation to the lyrics of Il Silenzio, it starts off with a trumpet playing, and sounds initially very much like the "last post", but is not. It is I believe Italian, but would like to know the English version of the lyrics.

I always liked it and it is played and sung by Nino Rossi. My mother died 10 yrs ago and I had it played at my her funeral when the coffin was borne from the church, it always struck me as being a "funeral dirge", which was the reason I chose it, but would love to actually know the English lyrics.

I realise of course that the name means "In Silence", which was why I chose it as the last tune played for the funeral.

If anyone can help me, I would much appreciate it.

Regards
Linda Grippi
