I heard a Railroad song somewhere that was one verse long and ended with something like,"and he did not crash and he did not die."

Can anyone help?

Try Shel Silverstein.

I think it is on a record from 1963 called "Inside Folk Songs".

The Smothers Brothers did it in the 60's. I believe it is on their "Live from the Purple Onion" album.

I do something similar that I stole from somewhere.

This is the story of the Old 49
Fastest locomotive on the Cannonball Line
She left Baltimore at a helluva dash
And she got there on time and she did not crash.

WRECK OF THE OLD '49
Shel Silverstein

Well, I'll sing you a song 'bout the old Forty Nine,
The fastest engine on the Santa Fe line.
On the fourteenth of April, she made a desp'rate dash,
And she got there on time and she did not crash!

Why am I NOT surprised that this is a Shel Silverstein song ?
