Managed to call in for three hours on Saturday afternoon - yep, Duncan McFarlane Band set was excellent, due in no small part to the excellent sound guys. Very swift changeover led to maximium performing / enjoying time.

Nice to run into a few faces I'd not seen in a while too.

Deirdre

Saturday singaround
Paul Young (Blackbeards teaparty) Oliver & Stuart also feature with Paul et al in a shanty group whose name escapes me, apologies boys, the old farts pointing fingers and joining in the chorus's were 2 Black sheep and a stallion aka Ron Akehurst, Martin Bartlett and yours truly Peter Outhart and of course many voices that came and led us in some great songs, I think the best singing session at this festival in the seven years I have been involved. My heart kicked out of rhythm early hours of sunday morning which was a bummer, curtailed my attendance to the performance of Blackbeards teaparty and our own slot in the Marquee which I enjoyed. sorry for not being my usual chirpy self but hey I was there! "Two" were on after us, self penned stuff, really good, one real wrist opener which was well constructed but I was not enamoured with but their
harmonies and arrangements were superb I think they will do well. We had Rob Van Sante performing with us, rare appearance cos he is always touring but it was great and Rob is up for doing more, Wowsa!
Big thanks to the sound engineers but a huge thanks to Roland who's massive input to the organisation of the event is why it runs the way it does and what makes it such an enjoyable event to support and attend

Sorry had to dash away at the end of the YG sing but I thoroughly enjoyed all of the singing, not least you and the missis, Paul.
Who were the 3 young harmony lads you refer to above?

We were at the Yorkshire Garland singaround and then stayed on for the very excellent open singaround that followed. Some great singers in there, especially the younger ones, Oliver, Stuart and Paul. Great way to spend the afternoon.

I wandered in too and spent an enjoyable afternoon in the folk club upstairs and chatting to friends. No singing as my voice hase pretty much gone at the moment due to a long bout of something horrible.

I popped along for a couple of hours on Saturday afternoon.
Amazing that just over an hours ride from my part of the world the weather was infinitly better than where I live . Apart from that , it seemed extremely well run , seemed to be something for everyone , a musician sesh which I joined , a (stage) singaround , another little singaround all in one pub (in different rooms naturally) and a well laid-out concert arrangement in the large large car park. Excellent barbecued food eg home made Hamburger and a raft of chips, well-presented,for a fiver. Other good choices at the same price level.
I watched a group whilst eating a hamburger (no chips) before finding a place in the musicians sesh.
Very good group - which must have been Duncan Mcfarlne band by checking my arrival time and the running order (above), and congrats to a great sound system /personnel .
I could only have one complaint, that the beer was a a bit pricey, but, THAT is blown out of the water by the fact that there is no admission charge to any event.
Credit where it's due, 10 out of 10 from me, and best wishes for the rest of the weekend.
Cheers Betsy

sadly it will be only one since i am still on drugs n stuff. I think this time the recovery will be slower, my heart was doing 220 beats per minute for six and a half days it has kicked seven colours of Sh** out of me and all my internal organs still ache! But hey ho I am still around, my 60th Birthday Party this weekend and the York w/e of folk next weekend. I get a nice gratuity and a pension on reaching my 60th birthday and I was determined to make it!

Phew that was a close one, Just had a spell in Hospital with the old ticker playing up, Ron suggested I might not be fit enough for this weekend Ha I am out now and recuperating. Nothing to do with music, but I have been trying to stick to a healthy diet since my last angiogram in 2006 and the one i had on thursday said it was the same as 2006, so although I have a partially blocked artery (caused by drugs I was taking to control my heartbeat)that is no worse so all the healthy eating and temperate drinking has paid off. so for anyone out there who doubts the benefits of healthy living - it works!
Oh where was i, see ya awl weekend after next, Saturday afternoon singaround

Oh Linda, on the price of drinks, I thought I had got used to being turned upside down and the money shaken out of me for a round of drinks in York but last weekend, in some pub in Grasmere, Cumbria, I was charged £4.20 for a J2O in a pint glass topped up with soda water and £3.80 for a pint of Landlord, where's the effing justice in that when the drivers drink costs more than the alchohol! (was charged £8.00 and asked for a breakdown)
The music is free so it should more than compensate for the price of the beer which actually, in the Black Swan, is on or near the going rate for town centre pubs and a lot less than the Bistro Bars prices

Dave, is it me or do others think that the acts coming to the york festival are getting better year after year. And such an eclectic mix of styles there really is something for everyone. credit to Roland and the Cadre of the BSFC

Meeting last night to discuss forth coming event, this year there will be concerts on the Friday evening in the marquee with a more contemporary flavour, the usual mixed tunes and songs session at the Tap & Spile on Friday night and new this year will be a session of purely Dylan songs along with the awesome tune sessions, rolling folkclub (get your name down!), and singarounds. For the un initiated the folk weekend is based around the Black Swan Inn Peaseholme Green, York, UK and anchored by the resident singers and musicians of the Black Swan Folk Club with contributions from others from out of town who have supported the club and festival in the past. Last years line up Keep an eye on the Black Swan Folk club website here for news updates
