A look inside the notebooks of song collector Reginald Gatty who, together with his friend Ralph Vaughan-Williams, travelled around rural South Yorkshire in 1907. The presentation will include examples from the 55 songs collected drawn from the villages of Bradfield, Hooton Roberts, Braithwell, Stainton, Thrybergh, Treeton and Elsecar.

Good to see Mark posting this festival information here!

Bradfield is near Sheffield, currently a hot bed of folky activity and home to younger folkies such as Fay Hield and Jon Boden and Nancy and James Fagan

As important are the Traditional and Traditionalist singers invited such as Tom McCarthy, the hunting fraternity and the collectors such as Dr Ian Russell, and Paul Davenport

In evidence too are the Sheffield Carollers

This is a fine gathering planned

For those who haven't experienced it, this is a very special festival. No mikes, no hype just wall to wall traditional music in intimate settings amongst some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. Traditional tunes and songs as they were intended to be heard, it's got to be one of the highlights of the year to anyone who values this music.

I had intended coming last year but was put off by the lack of info regarding venues and parking/camping which as a disabled person is vital.

What little info there was came too late for me to make any arrangements

I hope that someone can give EARLY details this year.

Nutty - the "events" are spread out between two pubs and the large barn on Mark's farm. The pubs are the Old Horns in High Bradfield, which is where most of the singing takes place, and
the Royal Hotel in Dungworth, which is where the music sessions (and the session for anyone still there on the Sunday night) take place. The dance last year was held in premises opposite the pub in Dungworth. There is camping available on Mark's farm adjacent to the barn. It's all a fairly fluid thing - no concerts or anything of that sort (except for the dance). As to early details ... well that's most of them above, but I would suggest that you email Mark if you want more info

A recommended weekend. Some of the best sessions I have been to have been at the Royal.
For camping or caravanning it is fairly basic and very high up so come prepared for the weather. Breathtaking scenery, very relaxed atmosphere
high quality performers, lovely friendly welcoming people, it is why I go as many times as I can. I hope to join Mr Fly for at least the Saturday.

The fine young Irish singer Tom McCarthy has confirmed he will be attending the weekend.His first CD was issued last year.Many of the songs he sings are unique to his family.Weekend tickets are going fast and will be limited to 150 so if you want to attend please order your tickets without further delay

I won't be there this year but it does come recommended. For nutty. A car is essential ( or the ability to beg lifts!!) . The singing sessions at the Old Horns and up a long flight of stairs. Could be iffy. And the Royal ( music session) has awkward doors, but otherwise is flat.

This sounds just wonderful!! BUT Unfortunately there's no way we can get there this year due to festivals booked either side of that weekend. Might be able to attend next year though, please post info here in advance if possible so I can plan properly.

The weekend will start with a music session at The Royal Hotel,Dungworth on Thursday 14th July at 8.00pm which include guests Roger Digby,Liz Giddings & Mike Acott amongst others.For people arriving early there will be a Friday lunchtime session at The Nags Head,Loxley where you can buy homemade pie and peas and a pint for £5.We have a number of additional guest singers coming over from Ireland.If you want to book a ticket email me for a booking form and pay on arrival.
