Subject: RE: Sinead O'Connor - Annachie Gordon From: GUEST,Alex Date: 17 Feb 11 - 04:54 AM Sinead's version is good, the Unthanks is excellent but they all bow to the version by the great Nic Jones, which directly or indirectly is where they all got it from. |
Subject: RE: Sinead O'Connor - Annachie Gordon From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 17 Feb 11 - 03:24 AM Loreena McKennitt sings it beautifully too. It's on one of her earlier albums, with very spare instrumentation I seem to recall. I even prefer her version to Mary Black's, which is saying something. I've just listened to Sineád, and I like her delivery but unfortunately find the persistent rhythm of the accompaniment too instrusive, and it's just distracting. I wish I could hear her without it. That powerful song does not need to be "dressed up". I'm afraid I find the Unthanks' version quite underwhelming, sorry Spleen! |

Subject: RE: Sinead O'Connor - Annachie Gordon From: Spleen Cringe Date: 17 Feb 11 - 02:49 AM S'ok... but not a patch on the sublime version by the Unthanks. Horses for courses, I suppose! |
Subject: Sinead O'Connor - Annachie Gordon From: Maryrrf Date: 16 Feb 11 - 10:47 PM I was looking at a threat about the Unthanks and their version of Annachie Gordon was mentioned. I had a look at them on You Tube and didn't care for the way they did the song. But, I saw a version by Sinead O'Connor (not really my favorite singer, but I was curious so I gave it a listen). I really like her version! She does perpetrate the Mary Black errors of ("Harking" is bonny, Annachie Gordon, he's bonny and he's "rough") but still, it's lovely. Sinead O'Connor's Annachie Gordon |
