Well, Katriona and Jamie did themselves proud at the Fairport gig in Tunbridge Wells last night.

They're doing their own tour straight after the Fairport series of gigs ends, and I'm putting them on at the Plaza Suite, Stag Community Arts Centre, Sevenoaks, UK, on 16th April.

Stag Theatre Sevenoaks Gilmore-Roberts

They're being supported by local acoustic band "Son of Kirk".

This should be an excellent evening's entertainment for a mere 8 of Her Majesty's Sterling Pounds. That's 2 pints and a packet of crisps at UK South East prices! There's a bar IN the Plaza Suite, at the back, so it's fine to arrive with a thirst.

BTW, having seen the "Unthanks" thread, this gig has seating supplied! Not regimented rows but grouped in semi-circles around low tables.

Getting closer...ticket sales are going well, but a few more would make it the really good audience that Katriona and Jamie deserve.

It'll be a good evening, so get those bookings made if you haven't already, or suggest to some friends that they go along :-)

Under two weeks to go, now!

Went to see support act "Son of Kirk" last night, as they've just had a lineup change. Although they also feature a violinist and even a bit of tapping on the guitar, they make a good contrast to Katriona and Jamie. They berated me a bit for callng them a "local" band in publicity as members hail from Australia, Wales and the Midlands and just happen to live around here :-).

Sorted out the sound, the lighting, the seating, the stage construction requirements, merch stands and bar and got a daughter and a friend organised as "gophers" to help on the night. Dealing with the Stag as a venue is quite "special". They're lovely people and really want to help but their systems/ admin seem to lag behind their enthusiasm a bit :-)

Hope people in your area support the gig because Jamie and Kat are well worth seeing. We had them in our town last year and booked them again for last Friday because they went down so well. We weren't disappointed and they performed brilliantly. Really lovely musicians, very talented and entertaining too. They were a pleasure to meet again and they will definitely be booked again. All the best for the gig! It is blooming hard work getting people to commit to tickets sometimes but we had about 8o+ turn out...come on all those in Rob's area, the tv is rubbish! Get out and support live music! :-D

Thanks, for the "push" Rockhen, and for the wishes!

Fantastic that you got 80+ turned out last week. I'll be ecstatic if we get the same in Sevenoaks. we've sold just over 50 tickets so far, so I'm hoping that we'll get over 70 there in the end. Depends on how many "walk-ins" we get, I guess.

It's hard work just getting the information out to the right places: Folk Diary, Remote Goat, What's On in Kent, and a dozen other web-sites carriying news of events, as well as trying to vget newspaper coverage, getting posters up in shops and public places, etc.

I can recommend an ad in "Folk Diary" for those in the South East with event to promote...we had quite a surge in ticket sales in the 3 days after it was published, so well worth the £9 for the ad!

It's tonight folks!

Just been sorting out stuff to feed the bands, sound people and helpers. I've got to feed:

- 6 Omnivores
- 2 Pescatarians
- 4 Vegetarians (1 verging on Vegan and one who doesn't like onions, nuts or beans!)

The logistics of feeding them are more complicated than the logistics of setting up the gig :-)

Still, there are 68 tickets sold so far and we got a mention on local radio and a nice little feature on page 2 of the "What's On" section of the local paper today so hoping for around 80 paying audience, which should make for a nice atmosphere.

It was a great gig! Not quite a sell-out, but almost...we had to add more seats to the room than we'd originally planned for.

The support act, "Son Of Kirk" went down very well, and Katriona & Jamie were brilliant. I still don't know how Jamie manages to do some of the things he does with his guitar....though I noticed that it was only the Takamine that he used for the more "percussive" songs, saving his nice Martin for the more lyrical stuff :-)

All the support crew...sound, lighting, gophers/ merch sellers worked really hard to make the gig go well.

Rafflesbear of this parish provided the sound with son Martin along to help and they did a really great job.

Nice one, Rob. As the other half of a gig putter-on...I know what goes on behind the scenes to make it work on the night! Credit to you and those who help you.

Thanks, Rockhen.

Got the final numbers through now: we had 96 there altogether, 84 paying audience and 12 complementary/ guest list and 6 no-shows for either booked-but-not paid or comp tickets.

Very happy with that attendance. Capacity of the venue was 120 max but we'd have been really cramming the seats in to achieve that. I think we put 106 seats out and were running out of places to put them :-)...so as near a sell-out as makes no difference.

Don't think I could do this full-time, though. I manage complicated exploration and research projects in my day-job, sometimes worth $millions, but somehow this seemed much more stressful :-)
