what expressions does on use to wish good luck to someone who is setting of on a sailing adventure? A friend just signed on for a
4 month tour of duty on a private cargo ship in the south seas...
from Hawaii to Cook islands to Line Islands.

Would "full sheets and a rolling sea" be a good wish?

"red sails in the sunset?"

I want to make a c.d. of shanties to send to him and the rest of the crew!!

"Three sheets to the wind and a rolling sea" sounds like a recipe for sea-sickness.

There's always "Hoist up the topsheet and spanker!"

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

I'd have thought that "Good Luck" would suffice.

Having been at sea for 23 years man and boy, I'd go with Bat Goddess.

Old school: "Fair winds and following seas and long may your big jib draw!" (This was sort of reserved for one-way trips like retirement though.)

I want to find a short sailor saying to wish my niece good luck in her enlistment. Any words? Something short but sweet will do.

Fair Winds and a following sea is traditional.

'May your course always be Full and By' is a bit more of nautical
