No, Drew sang another set of songs that day, and Pete and myself are old pals.

Auldtimer, "Deadly Wars" sounds very much like the kind of song Drew Goodwin might have sung, from my memory of his voice.
Perhaps contacting Pete Heywood of Living Tradition magazine based in Ayrshire (Drew's stomping ground) would be a next step?

The competition that year was in the Masonic Halls and I was fairly keed up during the morning sesson, I was singing in the afternoon, but I remember "The Deadly Wars" being sang. This was a song I only only knew from a recording of Jeannie Robertson and it was introduced as being a Burns song which got me interested and he seemed to have a different start to what I was extecting. BUT who the singer was ???? Drew Goodwin from Ayrshire was placed first that that year.

I have had a look at the notes from 1975. We recorded throughout the weekend. The men's singing was on both am and pm on the Saturday and I was adjudicating along with Charlie Murray. I had a recording engineer recording the fiddle and other instrumental competitions in the morning and the women's singing on the Saturday afternoon in other halls. I have no info on what was sung in the men's singing - unless I come across the adjudication notes - perhaps unlikely.

I can be of little use although I was at Kinross in '75 and belive that this recording may well be from the mens singing competition. Pete Shepheard was one of the ajudicators that year and can usualy be contacted through Springthyme Records.

I have come across some recordings from the Kinross Folk Festival 1975 and am trying to identify an English male singer listed as 'anon man' who sings the ballad 'Glenkindie' and the Burns song 'The Deadly Wars.' Does anybody have any idea who this might have been?

Thanks,

AR
